From Library Journal
Father Greeley here discusses his belief that the Roman Catholic Church could, until recently, comfortably assimilate popular culture, especially the arts. An avid consumer of popular culture, including genre fiction and film, he argues that the Church has lost touch with its members by ignoring the art and literature beloved by the secular world. He then reviews, perhaps less successfully, the theological and spiritual values he believes can be derived from the works of such celebrities as Bill Cosby, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, and Woody Allen and from such fictional genres as Westerns, fantasy, romance, and horror. Provocative and combative as usual, Father Greeley reserves his most pointed barbs for elitist critics and the Church hierarchy.
