Book Description

June 16, 1997
Not since Billy Graham has there been a minister with the stature and international reputation of Dr. Luis Palau. Over the past thirty years, he has gained an audience of tens of millions of people around the globe, and many regard him as the next major force in U.S. evangelism. God Is Relevant, Dr. Palau's first book for a trade audience, encapsulates his essential message to world, showing how God is not an outdated idea but a powerful force that can transform our troubled times and guide us into the coming millennium. Structured around three questions, "Is God relevant?," "How is God relevant?," and "Is God always relevant?," this work directly and sympathetically answers the doubts many have about the presence of God.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Touted as the next Billy Graham, international evangelist Palau has a following of millions through TV and radio broadcasts to 95 countries. In this first book for a trade audience, he sums up his message on God.

From Booklist

Second only to Billy Graham as the most successful twentieth-century Christian evangelist, Palau still isn't a U.S. household name, probably because the Portland, Oregon, native has evangelized most extensively in Spanish. Here he restates all the old arguments upholding theism against atheism. What may surprise many in an evangelist's book is that its second section, on personally accepting Christ, is considerably shorter than the other two. (Another surprise may be Palau's openness to readers who may disagree with him--he wants demurrers to correspond with him and gives his real and electronic addresses.) The first section sketches major wisdom traditions from Confucianism to contemporary scientism, and the third profiles the West's major doubters, skeptics, and atheists, from Descartes to Freud. Comparisons with Christianity--not as organized religion (the church) but as personal faith commitment--and Christian thinkers are made and, of course, made to appear sounder by means of a quotation of authorities so extensive that the book proceeds like a papal encyclical, only in a more readable fashion. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great! Excellent! Very Good!, April 4, 1998

This review is from: God is Relevant: Finding Strength and Peace in Today's World (Hardcover)
I finished reading this book a few days ago and I really enjoyed it because Luis Palau wrote to so many different audiences. Is not for the Christian alone, but for those who question or might question the existance of a God who is concerned and relevant to what happens in out society. It was well written. I guarantee you won't fall asleep reading it. One thing I like is the fact that Mr. Palau is not trying to make you believe what he is trying to portrait but he just lay it down on the table and you'll decide whether the God Christians preach is real or false, is relevant or not to human lives. One little detail that bugged me about this book was the fact he didn't give credit to Jesus Christ for giving him the inspiration to write this book. I believe Jesus Christ must be first on the credit list. Other than this, this book should be part of your library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wondering About a Relationship With Christ?, December 25, 1999
For the last couple of months my wife and I have been on our way back to developing a personal relationship with God. I felt my previous agnostic beliefs were not fullfilling enough for me anymore. However, I did have many unresolved questions about Jesus, Christianity, and the belief of God in general.Reading this book helped me sort out all of those thoughts in an organized, intelligent manner. Palau does not "preach" in this book. Rather he explains all viewpoints and their counter arguments from religious and skeptical points of view, and tries to shed some light on the subjects. I found it to be very helpful as a somewhat "confused seeker" of the truth. As a result of reading this book, my wife and I have entered into a relationship with God and Jesus Christ and have found new happiness and peace in our hearts.

5.0 out of 5 stars God IS Revelant Indeed, June 29, 1999

I recently read this book and enjoyed it very much. It didn't unfold like I expected as the author talks at length about the belief systems of atheists, several well known individuals in particular. That I found that to be most clear and informative.
