Jars of Clay Is Always Awesome,
By Quipper (United States) - See all my reviews

This song is classic Jars of Clay--highly recommended. Also check out their quintessential version of Drummer Boy! And after that, check out their other non-seasonal material too....

I have listed to the Jars Christmas songs for a few years, and I love them. I really enjoy their arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. I'd recommend getting this entire album, myself.

A Wonderful Reinterpretation (again),
This review is from: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (MP3 Download)
Albums and songs are like kids: you're not supposed to have favorites. That said, Redemption Songs has stayed a favorite on my iPod since it came out. Jars of Clay successfully made some older songs very interesting.Once again, Jars of Clay has taken an old classic and made a beautiful, new song out of it. I'll save my pennies through Christmas and pick up the rest of the album.

Jars of Clay have an amazing sound and one that would seem to be a great fit for Christmas music. But like so many artists trying to stand out while singing songs that are so engrained in our society, Jars takes an odd step here with the music. The odd synthesizers / drums, which you can just catch at the end of the demo, distract from the mellow singing and from the overall enjoyment of the song.

Amazing Rendition,

Jars of Clay's arrangement of God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen is an amazingly beautiful rendition of this traditional Christmas song, and should be tops on Christmas playlists, public and private, for its positive message expressed in a steadily expansive sound with folk and medieval influences. Fantastic!

Now that's more like Xmas!,

Good one! Jars of Clay's "God rest ye Merry gentlemen" is a good update on the carol - as an item in your Christmas calendar it's not too sweet, not too sour, and, unlike your first choice on 12/3/2009, 'Slow Christmas', not an inappropriate pill! (like Billy Bob's Bad Santa character said to the boy who found one in his, "They can't all be winners!") At least people can feel safe reccommending Amazon.com and downloading this song!

Just... boring,
By A viewer (NJ) - See all my reviews

Nope, even Carly's version is better than this one. I've got a lot of Christmas music, spanning traditional, funky, swing, you name it. Some straight ahead (Bing, Nat) and some off the beaten path (Bruce Cockburn, and Oscar Peterson). But this one? Just plain boring. It won't "offend" like Lady GaGa unless you're put off by the trite and dull. Not for me, even if it's free, thanks.
