"God of the Sparrow," shows us the world around us and ponders how humans are to respond to the Creator. It's charming, lovely, reverential, and joyful. Any work that exposes more people to Vadja's hymns is a delight! -- WTBF

Good children's books are hard to find. And if you really want a volume that's appropriate for a wide age range, theologically uplifting and delightfully illustrated, well - those are as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth!

There is, however, hope. Morehouse Publishing has just released an illustrated version of the hymn, "God of the Sparrow." L. Preston McDaniel's artwork creates a context in which children and adults alike can contemplate the complex God portrayed in the beautiful lyrics by pastor Jarolslav J. Vajda. The illustrations span a variety of seasons and situations. This volume is the first in a series of hymns that will be illustrated by McDaniel. "All Things Bright and Beautiful" will be available in the spring of 2000. A treasure. . . enjoy! -- Monday Morning, The Magazine for Presbyterian Leaders, 12/6/99

My two and a half year old daughter has this book, "God of the Spare-ee-owe," as she calls it, memorized because she asks me to read this all the time! It's become a favorite bedtime book, and it truly is wonderful. I was not familiar with this hymn, but bought it when I bought 'Earth and All Stars' which is a hymn I've long loved that Reverend McDaniels also illustrated. I was amazed the first time I read this to my little one, it seemed so deep and lovely and spiritual. One of my favorite parts is "God of the ages, God near at hand" where the illustration is of a little boy on a beach at night under the stars, and he is holding a starfish in his hand - it's easy to understand without being oversimplified. I used the part that says "...God of the empty tomb" to talk to my child about Easter. The illustrations are gorgeous and enlightening. I have bought four of his illustrated hymns books (All Things Bright and Beautiful & Now the Day is Over), and this is by far my favorite. This would be a great gift for a godchild or a baptism. I can't say enough wonderful things about this book!

this was a gift for a friend who'd just lost her favorite horse-buddy of 22 yrs. What a sweet book - and this seller delivered it quickly and in the condition advertised. Its such a comfort to know that our 'God of the Sparrow' loves ALL His creatures, and that one day we'll see them again. my friend just cried when she read it, very sweet book - for kids or adults!
