Surprisingly Exceptional,
By Susan (The Midwest) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The God Who Wasn't There (Audio CD)
I wasn't sure what to expect from a soundtrack from a movie titled "The God Who Wasn't There." I'm not normally a fan of soundtracks, hip-hop or remixes. (A triple whammy there!) But with a title like that and the fact that the associated movie's release date is 6-6-06 (yes,6-6-6!), how could I resist giving it a try?
This CD is a wonderful surprise. There are wonderful harmonies in "Blood Sacrifice Ritual" that appeal to the musician in me. "Every Single Day" is a toe-tapper and "Ten Turntables and a Slide Trombone" is a fun concept that really works well. But don't just mindlessly put this CD in for background music. The words are extremely thought provoking. This CD has it all; interesting subject matter that will no doubt elicit discussion, tickles for your funny bone and just plain great music.

Not Just for Techno Fans,
This review is from: The God Who Wasn't There (Audio CD)
Although I'm no stranger to Techno and related families of music, I usually tend to dislike them. This album ended up being one of the rare exceptions! There was one song that featured a tacky computer-generated voice, but other than that, this album was pure gold! A variety of sounds that is sure to tickle almost any listener's fancy!
On another note, this album really makes me even more eager to see the upcoming film of the same title!

Impressive,
This review is from: The God Who Wasn't There (Audio CD)
I typically hate soundtracks, but my friend asked me to check this one out. I was actually very impressed with most of the tracks. "Every Single Day" is the type of song that can get stuck in your head and yet you be happy that it is.
I also thought that the anticipation that is usually inherent in techno music paralleled the anticipation that many have for the associated movie "The God Who Wasn't There" coming out June 6th, 2005 on DVD. All in all, a good buy.

Soundtrack to your life?,
By
This review is from: The God Who Wasn't There (Audio CD)
Smooth, sublime, surreal and spiritual... and the spiritual part is saying alot for a heathen like me. Most "spiritual" goes right over my head, and past my non-existent soul. But the vocal overtones in this body of work hit home for me. Overtones, because the music itself is the star of the show. With remixes of some incredible artists like Zap Mama and David Byrne, it is a veritable cornucopia of Creative Commons licensing. The remixes are respectful of the originals, while taking them to new and unique places. The true gold is the work of DJ Madson, whose original cuts are moving (spiritually and physically.) If you've appreciation for music, let alone electronica, this soundtrack is for you. And what is a soundtrack, if not the aural portion of a delivery system... conveying ideas too large for simple visual consumption? I haven't seen the movie (just the preview,) but if this album is any indication - this heathen's gettin' all misty eyed with excitement.

The Man Above Was Right...,

This review is from: The God Who Wasn't There (Audio CD)
...no, not that invisible, non-existant man above, I'm talking about Alan Cox in the Editorial Reviews..."Killer soundtrack!"
Kudos to Brian Flemming, the director of this inspiring documentary, in having the collaboration of such musical talent to join in this powerful telling of his take on the Christ-myth. The mostly electro-techno-dance soundtrack works well under the themes of this movie...religion and reason, and the battle between these two areas of human thought. The music moves you, draws you in and, with the images in the film, opens your mind. Even if you haven't seen the film (I was able to see the premier in SF), the CD is by itself moving, and, dare I say, rapturous. Looking forward to when the DVD of "The God Who Wasn't There" shows up in my mailbox.

I sat there wondering how I could be relaxed by music at the same time it was making me think. It allows me to enter a mystical trance world while I kept focusing on the work in front of me. Hearing David Byrne brought back memories of the good ol' eighties. As does the bass riff from Another Bites the dust on Ten Turntables and a Slide Trombone - always a favourite with a die hard Queen fan. The remixing is brilliant. It takes you on a journey from historical times (Blood Sacrifice Ritual) to the heart of Africa (A Way Cuddy Dis 3000) to modern fundamentalist raving (I Don't Wanna Wait) out to Sagan's Cosmos (A Cosmic Error) and all the way to the brief history of our Universe (The God Who Wasn't There).
A great compliment to the film.

Fantastic Soundtrack from a Fantastic Film!,
By Daithi Mac Gearailt (San Francisco,CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The God Who Wasn't There (Audio CD)
Just saw this movie at its premiere in San Francisco, and I have to say I was blown away! Easily the best film of 2005.
A "Bowling for Columbine" for Christianity -one of the bravest, most mind-blowing, outrageous and funniest films I have ever seen. Run, don't walk, to see it, and bring your Christian friends with you! And the soundtrack is every bit as amazing, too: David Byrne, Thievery Corp., Zap Mama, and many more. DJ Madson has done a kick-ass job on this debut album.

Nice blend of techo and new age,
By Von Rick (AL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The God Who Wasn't There (Audio CD)
Crossing the borders of pure techno and pure new age, this music has the best of both. The spiritual component is also faintly visible but the music when imagine with the movie trailer makes a effect of where the story is leading us. In short, the sound track creates a visual perception of how the film would be. Highly recommended.
