2.0 out of 5 stars Useful but Potentially Unbalanced View of Workplace Ministry, January 22, 2010
This review is from: God @ Work: Developing Ministers in the Marketplace, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
God@Work is helpful in debunking the view that the only ones "chosen" for God's word are preachers in a church setting. Marshall shares how our work (and how we carry it out) can be a source of blessing/ministry to people, can touch and help hurt people, can help finance the advance of the Kingdom, how the Holy Spirit can release us for ministry right where we are, and even experience the miraculous everyday. Vol.1, God@Work, focused on the validity of ministry outside the church, proposing that both "priestly" and "kingly" ministers were needed. Vol.2 here looks a little more towards application, helping those working in the marketplace to become effective in ministry there.

There are a number of excellent points made and his overall premise is strong, but overall I ended up more uncomfortable rather than encouraged or enlightened by the book. There seems to be too strong an emphasis on spiritual gifts of signs and wonders, words of knowledge, and an expectation that God's blessing in ministry is necessarily related to the success of the business. For example, Chapter One starts out with a story of Rich praying away a hurricane during one his seminars in Barbados, and in Chapter Two (pg 28) he describes God's promise to bless our business (as he "wants you to succeed") if we follow three steps: act in faith and give generously, pray, and "tap into God's wealth producing system" and ask for His blessing on your job. Other chapters include "Signs and Wonders", "Authority", "Wealth Transfer", "Hearing the Voice of God", "Reaching Nations", and "Developing Marketplace Ministers."

I believe Rich is passionately committed to marketplace ministry and seeing the Kingdom of God flourish through his followers living out their faith in the workplace, and there are many solid insights in the book. I'm also thrilled that this book has been transformational for many readers, but if you're considering this book be aware of the stress here on dominion and wealth, and consider other books for a more balanced treatment of marketplace ministry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing !!, July 7, 2005
This review is from: God @ Work: Developing Ministers in the Marketplace, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
This book is life changing! I read God@Work Volume I, and I belive this book is even better. If you have a passion in your Heart to serve God in the Marketplace, this book is vital. Along with Linda Rios Brook, Ed Silvoso, Tamara Lowe, and others I believe Rich Marshall is really bringing transformation to the Body of Christ. Having 35 years of pastoral experinece, Rich Marshall gives tremendous insight from his life as a pastor. He has the ability to apply that experience to what is happening now. This book is a must!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!, December 17, 2007

This review is from: God @ Work: Developing Ministers in the Marketplace, Vol. 2 (Paperback)
This is the second book I have read by Rich Marshall and once again I was blessed! I have found myself reading it multiple times. Each time I need to remind myself that God really does have a place for us in our professional lives, I pull out the book and turn to a chapter. The book is refreshing and encouraging. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to gain God's favor and insight for their marketplace.
