Book Description

I am God: World's Oldest Story has now become a Top 10 Amazon Bestseller

150,000 years ago.
In a land that is now known as Africa.
They think he is the one. He doesn't...
A young man named Ayot has been nominated as the tribe's God, but is he really one? Will he command the tribe as a surprise pick? Or is he going to be branded as their first failure? To succeed he will have to complete the Tasks of God before the next full moon. The odds are definitely against him, and he doesn't have a choice.
Three impossible Tasks. Thirty days to complete. Why was I chosen?
But he doesn't have time to dwell. In a quest of self-discovery that will propel him across deserts, dense forests, and open savannahs in a frantic race against time to prove his divinity, I am God: World's Oldest Story will put you firmly in the driver's seat, as you follow the prehistoric adventures of Ayot. You will realize that at its deepest core, the challenges faced by Ayot are the same that you face today. This is NOT his story of discovering his divinity. This is YOURS.

What is 'I am God: World's Oldest Story' about?
Like the title says, it is the oldest story in the world. It is an action adventure set in a prehistoric Africa. Without giving away much of the story, I can tell you that the protagonist is an unwilling hero on whom a great responsibility has been thrust. While undertaking the responsibilities, he discovers some amazing things about himself and about his fellow men.
What would the readers expect to read?
It's a fast paced story. Most of us have an incorrect notion of how our ancient ancestors lived. Our ancestors were pretty perceptive and intelligent. They were also much more robust than we are. They were living Man vs Wild day in and day out.
When we talk about prehistoric fiction, we have to talk about Jean M. Auel's Earth's Children series. Have you read her books?
No, I haven't read them but would like to. I was researching on my book when I first stumbled on Jean Auel's 'Clan of the Cave Bear'. Her books are of the Cro-Magnon period. 'I am God' is set a 100,000 years further back.
The title 'I am God' is interesting. What does it convey?
There was a time when Gods were living amongst us. They no longer do. Why? The story explains a bit in that direction.
So does it talk on the origin of religion?
There is a little spirituality involved. Even our ancestor cavemen had rules to guide them. I am yet to decide whether the overall series would touch upon the origin of religion.
There is a series?
Yes. Atleast a sequel. My purpose in writing books is that it should be as relevant decades later as its today. I like to entertain the readers. That's my main purpose. But it should also touch them; leave them with a message that stays with them for a long time.
Is it like Paulo Coelho's 'The Alchemist'?
It is interesting that you mentioned that. Both stories are set in Africa & are about discovering the self and the potential that's within us. I like to think of my book as The Alchemist on steroids.

Editorial Reviews

A powerful story... Absolutely loved the book!

Delightful story... highly recommend "I Am God" to readers such as myself who like their fiction with traditional plots, sympathetic protagonists, and narratives questioning what it means to be a human in our world.

From the Inside Flap

Ayot froze.
The words echoed in his head. He didn't want to believe it, but there was a chilling finality about the words that he had just heard.
God has died!
Only a few moments ago, everything had seemed so perfect...

5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply Thoughtful Prehistoric Action Adventure May 12, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I first read the title of Rahul Badami's "I Am God: World's Oldest Story," I assumed the novel was about a Jesus character claiming to be the incarnation of a monotheistic "God." I'm glad to say it isn't.

The story is set in Africa 150,000 years ago among humans as intelligent and compassionate as those of us alive today. As a writer of prehistoric fiction myself, I was pleased to see that.

At 29, Ayot is an elder in his tribe. Upon the death of the present chief--who, like his predecessors, is called "God"--the tribe learns that he picked Ayot to succeed him. Ayot appears to be an unlikely choice since he often differed with the old God. He also doesn't think he's worthy enough to be the new God.

In any event, before he can exercise the authority given to him, he must complete, within a 30-day moon cycle, three Tasks of God. A rival elder suggests that one of the tasks should be the Vision of God, which by itself would be difficult if not impossible to complete within the period allowed. Ayot nevertheless accepts the challenge, and the page-turning begins.

Up to this point, Badami hasn't depicted the tribe's God as possessing supernatural powers. I wondered, though, whether that would change. I won't give the answer to the question here because it would be a spoiler. The nature of a God's power--and Ayot's quest to discover it--is what this delightful story is all about.

Badami rightly describes his novel as "the prehistoric action adventures of Ayot." It is also deeply thoughtful. I highly recommend "I Am God" to readers such as myself who like their fiction with traditional plots, sympathetic protagonists, and narratives questioning what it means to be a human in our world.

2.0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed March 16, 2014
By Bob
Format:Kindle Edition
I rated this a two star book because it was too contrived for my liking. It was set in prhistoric times with a modern mentality and psychology. I do not doubt prehistoric man's preoccupation with spirituali life, but I do feel that there was a more basic lifestyle than that presented by the author in early man's daily existence. People who have a more spiritual view of life in general and other such leanings may well enjoy the book. I was looking for a more elemental approach to early man's lifestyle.

More About the Author

Rahul Badami has always cherished to be an author since he was a kid. His books are a manifestation of those long-held dreams.

An avid reader of action adventure, historical fiction, thrillers, self-help & non-fiction; he has an optimistic goal of reading 1 billion words and writing 1 million.

But there is a problem. He can work towards that goal only after his toddler daughter is asleep. So only after singing a lullaby to his sleepy angel, he would be able to churn out those books from his hyperactive mind.
