ENERGIZING, SPIRITUAL, AND BEAUTIFUL,
By Neal C. Reynolds (Indianapolis, Indiana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Goddess Awakening, Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
This CD starts out on an energetic note, and throughout, delivers energy. The sound is terrific: the use of musical instruments, many which I have never heard used before, plus the use of the female voice as an instrument creates a music which surrounds and carries a person. There are many moments of exquisite beauty, especially the "Celestial Beauty" track and the edited reprise (I believe these are the only tracks that Lucia sings on...I'll need to check the album notes to be sure) and "Golden Light". But there are no truly low points in this album. This is an album good for background during bodywork, studying, or for starting the day in an invigorating manner. The other vocalists besides Lucia are equally fantastic, as are Lucia's performances on various instruments, as is the performance of each musician involved. This is world music, heavily influenced by music of Tibet, Asia, Brazil and Africa, therefore unusual to many American music buyers, but I am sure you will love it as I do. This album is the first of a trilogy...I recommend all of them.

Lucia Hwong's music is transporting. Its exotic and haunting sounds take you to places unknown and let you linger there a while. A wonderful music experience.

Enchanting mystical romp through celestial clouds.,

This music found me, discovered an empty space within me and filled it with warm and transient melodies. It introduced a hunger I hadn't known existed. I am inspired to acquire the remaining two volumes of her trilogy. I feel the Reiki infused energy radiating off of each and every note! I highly suggest this for spiritual healing!

Actually 3 1/2 Stars,
By Keira (Lansing, MI) - See all my reviews

This album is pretty good, but not great. I do own it, enjoy it, and listen to it on occasion. So I'm not trying to discourage anyone from purchasing it. But if you are looking for something different or looking to explore a great new sound, you are not going to find it here. This album covers very familiar territory.
Certainly there is much to like about this album, don't get me wrong. It's an enjoyable listen. Hwong is a skilled musician whose mastery of a variety of instruments keeps this album moving along at a nice pace. Many of the songs have a slinky, playful, flirtatious quality to them that is quite appealing. But, about halfway through the album you will find yourself scratching your head and going "Hey wait, didn't I hear this already?" And indeed, you have. Not only are the songs "Celestial Beauty" and "Spirit Guide" repeated later in the album (see track listing), but many musical themes and patterns from the first part of the album are repeated throughout the latter half of the album, as well. Though the repetition is obvious to a listener who's been listening with half an ear, it's not particularly annoying or distracting. But it does give the impression that she ran out of musical inspiration before she ran out of album space and just decided to repeat earlier themes to fill the rest of the album. Ultimately, this album isn't bad. But the overall lack of uniqueness and the repetition of several songs on the album keeps me from giving it a solid 4 stars in good conscience.

Lucias music really warms the heart and gets your body heat going! This is surely the type of music one should listen to as a guide to the new millenium. The pulsing rhythms, the subtle textures, the ethereal melodies are sure to please the most decerning ear! Simply divine and perfect to slip into after a hard days night...
