4.0 out of 5 stars When I fall in love, September 12, 2005
This review is from: Goddess (Audio CD)
I rate this record as a 4 but the song "When I fall in love" as a 5. The person reviewing this record/song before me says she (Marilyn) never sang this song. But she did and if you have ever listened to her singing before you would recognize the voice very well. I know she didn't do the original. I think (please note that I'm not sure and wouldn't pretend to), that Doris day sang it the first time in 1952 in the film "One Minute to zero" and Edward Heyman/Victor Young wrote the song. But this song was also recorded by: Nat King Cole; Janie Fricke; Bob Berg; Ruby Braff; Betty Carter; Tony Bennett; Natalie Cole; Duane Eddy; Bill Frisell; Stan Getz; Tiziana Ghiglioni; Jim Hall; Julio Iglesias; Lena Horne; Kathie Lee Gifford; Pat Healy; Mike Mainieri; John Lytle; Krokodil; Willis "Gator" Jackson; Bobby Hutcherson; Tom Jones; Jackie McLean; Gary Lemel; Les McCann; Jack McDuff; Arthur Prysock; Marilyn Monroe; Hank Mobley; Bob Parton; Lou Rawls; Toots Thielmans; Diane Schuur; Cilla Black;
Johnny Mathis; Faron Young; Ben Webster; Joe Williams; Grover Washington; Bobby Vinton; The Four Preps; Dinah Washington; Kenny Rogers; Miles Davis; Joni James; Ray Anthony; Stan Kenton; Engelbert Humperdinck; Russ Peterson; Matt Monro and Chet Baker.

I've heard even more recent ones. So why take the glory out of Marilyns lovely version, which I personally think is the best one? I would buy this record any time just to listen to her sing this song, but she made several other lovely, funny and serious songs as well. She is mostly known for her gorgeous looks nowadays, but her singing was better than most people know now. So take the chance and listen to a beautiful voice and forget about the beautiful blonde for once.
