Editorial Reviews

Review

It seems like every day there is another divination tool crossing my desk. Some intrigue me mildly; others seem just plain silly, some are well-meaning but not too well put together, and a few knock my socks off. The Goddess Oracle left me in bare feet as soon as I got it out of the box.

Amy and Hrana must have a very special relationship; I have rarely seen such a beautiful and seamless collaboration. Amy's text is wise, sophisticated and, date I say it, grown-up. She sweated blood to get this baby into the world, and the Goddess meditations and rituals she has written for each card show it.

Hrana's paintings are nothing short of miraculous. They are vibrant, deep, and detailed. It is rare to see artwork which expresses the divine in such realistic and yet transformative detail, especially that translates into the small format of a card deck.

Element Books is to be commended for publishing such an excellent work, and for including images, such as Sheila Na Gig, The Erinyes, and Baba Yaga, which express deeper and more threatening aspects of the Goddess.

The Goddess Oracle does not yield obvious answers to one's inquiries but lures the seeker into a journey with the Goddesses which appear. Do not expect quick answers here, but be prepared for a surprisingly respectful and challenging encounter with the Divine Spirit. -- SageWoman, Winter, 1997

The paintings on the cards are absolutely enchanting; artist Hrana Janto, who illustrated The Goddess Calendar, also created paintings for the PBS series, The Power of Myth. This is a wonderful introduction to the pantheon of world goddesses, and a loving and powerful tool for honoring and healing oneself. -- NAPRA, Winter, 1997

From the Author

Many years ago, after picking the Stagnation Rune three different times when I asked if I should send my action- adventure screenplay out, I felt frustrated. Yes, I definitely got that I am "stagnating," but what I needed was where to go from here. I vowed that if I ever created an oracle, it would have ritual suggestions to help people engage with the challenge in life they are facing, become empowered and then transform.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most useful tool I own, December 3, 2000
This review is from: Goddess Oracle (Paperback)
I tend to be a junkie for various metaphysical decks -- tarot cards, medicine cards, rune cards, etc. -- but the Goddess Oracle is the one I use the most because it's the most helpful and effective. It always sheds light on whatever my problem is and gives greater insight. The correspondences between the goddesses shown and the meanings are wonderful and Marashinsky's research, respect and love for the topic shine through. Janto's art is the perfect compliment. She has created some of the most beautiful depictions of goddesses I've ever seen. Everyone I've ever introduced to the Goddess Oracle has been blown away by it and soon after bought their own. That should say something.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Artwork, Spiritualy Rewarding....Insightful, August 2, 2000
This review is from: Goddess Oracle (Paperback)
This set of cards, with book, is obviously made for women, by women.... However, I found it very useful, not-only as an Anthropological collector's item, but as a Spiritual Tool. A man who is not willing to accept the Feminine in himself and the world will Never achieve harmony with Nature's Laws. This set is a Wonderful gift or purchase for anyone interested in Spirituality/Religion/Mythology/Goddesses (THEY ARE RENDERED VERY ARTISTICALLY AND EXUDE BEAUTY AND FLOWING, GRACEFUL FORM !) and related fields of interest. You cannot go wrong with this set. If-only Tarot cards were produced so well! My Tarot collection pales in comparison with the presentation of these cards...which you will find yourself meditating upon, simply because they are so Inviting and Beautiful.... I bought one for my Girlfriend, and had to get one for myself !

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and understand, January 9, 2000

"fig27" (Anaheim, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Goddess Oracle (Paperback)
I usually have trouble using other tarot decks. The instructions are usually vague, and you have to memorize so many different meanings. But The Goddess Oracle is straight forward and easy to understand. I wasn't constantly flipping back to the booklet to find the meanings to the cards. You aren't restricted to any certain spread. I clearly understood the answers to my questions. Also, I've never seen such beautifully illustrated cards. I also liked how background info was given for each goddess. I highly recommend this.
