Stunning, lovely, goddesses,
By
This review is from: The Goddess Oracle Deck & Book Set (Cards)
This deck of divination cards is excellent for anyone who is interested in goddesses from different cultures, as well as Tarot enthusiasts, alternative religions, or just in pretty artwork. Hrana Janto, the artist who painted the deck, worked hard to make each goddess both representative of the traditional symbolism surrounding her religion, as well as the various ways women "are" in the world. We have round, full-bodied women, young, old (the Sheila Na Gig is amazing, for example), thin, black, white, and all shades in between. There are women in the deck who could be supermodels, and some who look like they've had (and are proud of having) a couple of children. And all are reverence with the "goddesses in every woman" theory of all bodies and beauties being wonderful.
The deck opens itself up for a number of personalized types of readings for the person who is looking for answers. You can use mutliple spreads or just one card. I recommend this deck as highly as I can, and the new US Games version has more durable cards, and are smaller as well, which could work a lot better for smaller hands to shuffle. The fine research into goddess traditions done by Marashinsky is still relevant, and I think this deck & book would make a great Christmas present. In fact, that's how I received it, and it is a welcome member of my Tarot collection.

Gorgeous artwork!,
This review is from: The Goddess Oracle Deck & Book Set (Cards)
Okay, I admit it. I actually bought this for the artwork on the cards. I'm not really a big fan of tarot or oracles and such, but I just love the work of Hrana Janto.
That being said, I found that I was also was quite fascinated with the book that accompanies the cards. Goddess in so many forms, from so many cultures, so many aspects. Quite an interesting read. I'd recommend this set to anyone who enjoys inspired illustration, and to anyone who is interested in historical and multi-cultural concepts of the goddess. Even if you don't want to use the cards as an oracle, the set is worth having for many other reasons.

Beautiful, intuitive deck,

I had an amazing reading done with this deck a year ago and finally bought it for myself. It's great! The artwork is beautiful and I find the cards really speak to me. The book is good for a quick overview of each goddess but there's so much symbolism in each card, you can let the images guide you on their own.

Dear Reader,
These cards are beautiful, as every review as stated. The book is interesting, full of facts and myths on every Goddess. Each Goddes has her own poem, description and card definion, as well as a ritual suggestion. Each card/ Goddess is listed with an 'aspect'. Hestia - Responsibility (example) I bought this for the beauty, got it for only $10 brand new. Thought I'd hang them in one of thoes big frames with multiple picture slots, or put them on my altar, or hang them on a mirror to remind me what aspect of myself to work on, or just use as pretty bookmarks. I didn't exect such a well-done oracle deck; I am sceptical of 'modern' oracle decks. Anything older than the old Waite deck I learned Tarot on is considered 'bandwagon' stuff and therefor useless. It's not true! I sat down and did a spread and was shocked and amazed at what came up. I got intimate, personal answers to the questiosn I had; practical advice for the situation; advice on what to do in future situations and what needs to be done to prevent this situation from happening again. Example: my latest spread was done to help me find the source of my frustrations with my housework (I am a housekeeper, living with three other young adults). Here is what I got: What needs to be focused on? Responsibilty card: The people I keep house for need to relized that it's not JUST my responsibility to keep the house clean, they need to take responsibility for their messes and clean them up instead of leaving it for me to clean up. But ULTIMATLY it is MY responsibility to 'keep the house' and be 'queen of my domain'. What is hidden that is causing the problem? Mystery card: I was confused at first but then I realized my frustration was rooted in my routing. In my STIFLINGLY strict routine; it was sucking all the fun and joy out of keeping a beautiful home that my make-shift family loves. I needed to shake things up some. What can be done to fix the problem? Opening: I needed to have a heart-to-heart with my roomies over their messes and laziness. I needed to be open to advice and change in turn. What needs to be experienced to fix the situation? Wholeness: I was so fucused on each individual thing in the house, that it was eating me whole. I wasn't living a 3D life and had become much, much more anal than I should be. I needed to foster wholeness in other aspects of my life; such as religious studies or animal care, or my plants, or my environmental commitment. (I'm a hippy, I admit it!) I sat down thinking this deck was going to tell me that it was all my room mates' faults for being slobs, and I came away realizing that I was just putting a great deal of frustration and hurt feelings on their shoulders. Though some of it WAS their fault, and we did have that talk (and it did help a great deal), most of the aggitation was coming from my stagnant situation where I had scheduled every ounce of my time and left no room for fun. And then when I saw my efforts in the home were being undone so easily, I placed all my woes on that instead of looking at the whole picture. This is just my latest spread; the ones I have done before have had even more insight and have helped me even more than this one did. HIGHLY suggest this deck, even if you are a man. If a former feminazi like me can skip over the 'feminist propaganda', then any ball-wearing she-man out there can too. <grin> Sesh

I purchased this card deck quite some time ago. It was recommended to me, by a close friend and mentor, that I consider an oracle deck vs. tarot as a divination tool. An oracle deck seems to allow more room for your own interpretation and use of intuition. I am a psychic medium, currently starting my own business doing readings, and I strongly identify with this deck. The images are all feminine and gorgeous. I adore the artistic style and connect strongly with the fact that each image is of a Goddess from cultures around the world. My readings have been clear and this deck has helped to open me up to my intuition, and to trust what comes through. The book that comes with the package is informative for the beginner and gives information on each individual card/Goddess along with a poem that helps you understand the feeling/message behind the card. Very nice and highly recommended, even just for the art work!

The Goddess Oracle Deck is beautiful art combined with well written explainations for each card in the deck. What amazed me is the accuracy in which the cards and each's accompanying description fit's with each reading. It is an amazing deck and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in adding to their existing collection and especially for first time beginners. After much research me and my wife settled on this one and we weren't disapointed, gorgeous, well written descriptions and accurate, kudos to the designer and originator of this exquisite deck!

I've been wanting this set since I saw it for the first time some years back. It lived up to all my expectations! Hrana's artwork is absolutely stunning, and Amy did a really good job getting info on a large variety (52!) of Goddesses from all over the world, as well as suggesting a few spreads to get you started. Overall, the deck focuses on the wholeness of a person, and what you must focus on (dealing with grief, setting boundaries, owning your body, loving yourself) to acheive wholeness. I really like that aspect, as I think that's one of the most challenging things as a person - trying to feel complete.
I would have liked a bit more info on the Goddesses, but of course, when it's a small booklet it's hard to fit in everything! There will also always be some debate about the "actual" roles of some Goddesses, but that must be up to the individual to figure out what that particular deity means to her/him. There is also a very helpful bibliography in the back, should you feel interested in knowing more about the Goddesses in the deck. I haven't actually used it yet, but I've spent ours going through the book, looking at the cards and thinking about what each of the cards and their meaning mean to me. I can only recommend this - I only regret not getting it sooner!

This deck is amazing, I love almost all of the goddesses....some of the images ARE graphic but to me they're a great example of beautiful artistry. The book is fantastic, it let's you know who each goddess is (mythology), the cards meaning, and then there is wonderful visualized meditation that helps you to connect to that Goddess (which I think was a brilliant idea by Marashinsky's).
This deck is NOT for everyone If you like your Goddesses to have a really soft and romantic look about them, or if enjoy when the Goddesses look like they just stepped out of a comic book, then this is probably NOT the deck for you. The majority of the Goddesses have a beautiful honest human like quality about them. ALSO if you don't like nudity then this is ABSOLUTELY NOT the deck for you! But as for me, I love this deck I find it easy to work with, and the images really resonate with me (yes...EVEN Sheila Na Gig!) and I SOOOOO relate to Goddesses looking like powerful HUMAN woman. This is a good deck for anyone who wants to begin their journey connecting with Goddess energy.

I bought this oracle deck over a year ago and still use it very regularly. I have found the readings to be extremely insightful. On the rare occasion I am confused by the card I pull but I almost always go along with it and do the accompanying journey; I usually realize the significance soon thereafter (so now I've stopped doubting it). Usually the cards are extremely relevant. I drew the "Synthesis" card three times in the past week (The Goddess name is Gyhldeptis). Right now I am most certainly working on loving all parts of me, even the "ugly" parts (so the card is very fitting), and when I asked the deck how to come into wholeness in regards to a fight I had with my sister I drew this card. Aha! Yes! I need to love all those parts of her that I judge that are also parts of me. Anyhow, you get the picture. By the way, when I first got this deck I picked up on the theme of Wholeness so I phrase my questions that way. "How do I come into wholeness with my relationship with my sister?", for example.
I love the accompanying journey that comes with each card's explanation. It takes the reading a step further. A guided meditation for every card! (And there are a lot of cards, even through regular use there are several cards I still haven't drawn; after I year I only drew Gyhldeptis for the first time last week.) As far as the artwork goes, I really love it. I think the only negative review is by someone who didn't like the art and didn't actually use the deck. I am not at all put off by exposed breasts...why would I be? I'm a woman and this is a Goddess deck, after all! If you want pretty pictures of Goddesses then I guess look to Doreen Virtue. Wholeness comes from embracing the light and the dark, and some of the Goddesses (Kali, as an obvious example) are shown as dark. The card for Uzume shows her breasts, but it makes sense when you read the back story and how she enticed the Sun Goddess to come out of her cave by exposing her breasts and playing with herself as comedic show. Overall, I highly recommend. I think it's very unique and quite amazing. |
