5.0 out of 5 stars "Unforgettable scenes set to music...Coppola, Rota & Silva"

Of course Nino Rota's score for the Godfather is superlative, which is what makes this CD such a disappointment. Given that Carmine Coppola is conducting, the renditions are shockingly ersatz; as if the music was being performed by 101 strings orchestra or something. I find the rendition tasteless, alternately infused with muzak and bombast. In my judgment the feel of the...

Perfection in film making, brought together by a fine cast, director and composers Nino Rota and Carmine Coppola...your love as a "film-score-buff", can only be matched by the performance of The Milan Philharmonia Orchestra...conducted by one of the films composers Carmine Coppola.

Fourteen unforgettable selections from one of the most memorable films ever to grace the Cinema ~ "The Godfather"...opening track says it all "SPEAK SOFTLY LOVE" (Love Theme), recorded by more artists you can shake a stick at, Al Martino, Andy Williams and Henry Mancini, just to name a few, love this arrangement and performance by Coppola...but my favorite cue is "THE GODFATHER WALTZ", the melody gets under your skin and stays there for days...one other track stands out "THE IMMIGRANT"(Main Theme), brings back memories of my Grandfather coming to America and the events that took place, miss him very much, but I still have my memories and his wonderful stories.

You might try another Silva Screen release ~ "The Godfather Trilogy(30th Anniversary)"(SSD-1121), captures the mood and tone of the Godfather Saga!

Total Time: 40:50 on 14 Tracks ~ Silva Screen Records STD-5001 ~ (1977/1991)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Corleone will live forever, July 7, 2004

This review is from: The Godfather Suite: Music Featured in the Trilogy (Audio CD)
Carmine Coppola, Nino Rota and Francesco Pennino make an amazing suite of the awarded trilogy The Godfather. With the Milan Philarmonia Orchestra conducted by Carmine Coppola this soundtrack takes a magnificent atmosphere. The Suite includes the most representative song alonf the trilogy as the best-known LOVE THEME that appears int all the films. THE GODFATHER'S MAZURKA from the first part, THE GODFATHER WALTZ the Coonie's wedding dance (a variation of The Immigrant). One of the most colorful pieces is THE GODFATHER'S FOXTROT from the first part. SENZA MAMMA by Pennino, a theatre song form the second part.
The MICHAEL'S THEME that become the main theme in the second and third part, it shows how's the life of the Don. KAY'S THEME a beatiful melancolic and elegant theme.
THE IMMIGRANT, the opening theme, and for someones is the most perfect melodie in the trilogy, with the dark trumphet it brings a very dark, tragic, and misterius atmosphere toward the movie.
This CD is a tribute for the BEST trylogy in all the movie history.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great harmony!, June 10, 2000
This review is from: The Godfather Suite: Music Featured in the Trilogy (Audio CD)
After listening to all 3 GF soudtracks and watching all the movies, this album makes a great addition to anyone's CD collection. Excellent orchestration and arrangement. The songs capture all the classic moments of the film, and when you listen to the whole album, you fall in love with "The Godfather" all over again.

One of my favorite albums. I love this music. Great orchestration. I like about half of the songs on this album which is a winner in my book.

I find the rendition tasteless, alternately infused with muzak and bombast. In my judgment the feel of the music is way off. If you listen to music through a clock radio while doing dishes, fine. But if you are a connoisseur of fine music intelligently and tastefully performed, I don't think you are going to like this CD.
