Book Description

A fresh perspective on the paranormal.

Praise for The Godhunter Series:
"Smart, sexy, sassy and sweet this story holds adventure and romance, with a well written and witty take on mythology. Read this now!”
"Vervain, her Gods and her men, they breathe in a way that I am unable to describe!"
"They are so good, they should be savored, but instead I binged on them like a kid on Halloween."

You think you've got some bad date stories? My last date ended with me almost being sacrificed to a Hawaiian war god. Then I found out that all the gods are real. Only they aren't really gods, they're Atlanteans. Yep, that Atlantis.
They screwed up their perfect island(and sank it), then had the nerve to move in on our territory. As if that wasn't bad enough, they told us normal humans that they were gods. And we believed them. Why? Cause they did really cool things. So we sacrificed to them and they took that energy and used it to make themselves even more powerful.
Then a little thing called science came along and we stopped believing in the supernatural. We stopped sacrificing to the gods. They lost their power source and that pissed them off royally. So they started thinking up new ways to get sacrifice from us. Like starting wars. They manipulate us into killing each other and guess who gets the energy? That's right, they do. They get stronger with each one of us who dies.
You think I'm crazy, right? Yeah, that's pretty much why I don't go shouting it from the rooftops. It's also why I've taken it upon myself to stop them in any way I can. I may not be some kick ass superhero but I happen to be a witch, so at least I've got magic on my side. I promise you, I won't stop fighting until I free us from the manipulations of the gods. Not even for a hot Viking god who wields a big hammer. No matter how good he looks in his leather pants.
I'm Vervain Lavine, the Godhunter, and unfortunately, I'm not crazy.

Sassy, funny, and tender, The Godhunter Series will open your eyes to a world you never knew existed. A world of gods and magic, witches and shapeshifters, love and war. Grab your copy right now and join the fight!

2.0 out of 5 stars What's with all the rape?? April 1, 2014
By Az
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I know I'm not this books target demographic (I'm a man), but I couldn't wrap my head around all the rape in this book. And, why does the main character seem to like it so much?? This seems sick and wrong, and I have a high tolerance for that sorta stuff. Like, she gets mind-raped (even worse than normal rape) by a bad guy, yet can't help wanting more or checking him out every time she sees him. Is this the kind of story woman want to read??

Seriously, somebody explain this to me.

On the plus side, the story is well written, the dialogue not bad, and the plot moves forward until it becomes clear that this is going to be a never ending series that just gets worse and worse until you don't care about it anymore.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Action Heroine for the Paranormal World! November 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Funny, charming, sweet and action packed! I rarely write reviews, unless a book is extra-ordinary in some way, good or bad. This book is extra-ordinarily good. Vervain has stumbled onto a secret, the Gods are real but they aren't gods. They are Atlanteans who have learned to channel both our worship and our blood sacrifices. Vervain is a refreshing character. She doesn't have a certain Paranormal heroines hang ups that take 17 books to overcome. She is comfortable with who she is. She is a fighter, who has to learn to also be a lover. She is a human who takes on immortals and also entices them. The action scenes are sharp and just the right length. The book is sexy without tipping into the pornographic. Her struggles between the various Gods courting her are at once humorous and touching. Thor is not our Marvel hero but a real version of the Viking God, with all his foibles and nobility. Blue is wonderfully torn between being evil and trying hard to learn to love. Witchcraft is presented well - as a Wiccan, I appreciate that. Her side characters are interesting without being intrusive, I particularly like the depiction of Horus, you can just feel the wounds under his hard candy coated shell. I would however like to see a few more Goddesses presented in a good light. If I could, I would dazzle you with more stars as 5 just doesn't gut it

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining story October 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Let me start by saying that if this was a show on television, I would absolutely watch it. It definitely has that Buffy vibe, and the mythos is both fascinating and engaging. I loved seeing which god/goddess/creature would show up next. The explanations for both vampires and werewolves was creative enough to keep me interested, even though those particular monsters have been done to death in this genre.

That being said, my review is more a 3.5 stars (I always round up.) The editing was pretty bad, so if you're a stickler for the correct use of commas, you might find it a little distracting. I don't mind overlooking that for an interesting and engaging story (which this was). It was by the time the fifth beautiful man had confessed his love/lust for the main character that I began to get a little tired. Perhaps if the all the characters hadn't kept insisting that she was so witty/funny/interesting...

Overall, I'd recommend this book vs. not recommend it, especially if you love mythology and seeing all the various world pantheons flung together.

I have read all of the books in Amy's Godhunter series and they are all fantastic! If you've been looking for a new author to obsessively read, you've come to the right place. There are nine books so far, and I can tell you they are all well worth buying. Vervain's life is fascinating and outrageous. She is a sympathetic character you can relate to who develops into a multi-faceted, even more kick-ass character over the course of the series. At the height of her power, she is still lovable and vulnerable, never losing the important parts of her humanity. And her men, whew! Well, you'll just have to read to find out ;-) The Godhunter series is a hidden gem in a sea of dreck. Don't pass it by! (And if you're wondering, no, I don't know Amy Sumida and no, I wasn't paid for this review.) The series really is that awesome.

3.0 out of 5 stars God Hunter March 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A slow beginning. The further I got into the more I liked the characters. Vervain is a strong woman who fights for the human race. Along the way she is learning that not all Gods, like people, are not from the same mold.

Now about Amy:
Amy Sumida lives on a little island in the middle of the Pacific ocean with her two gravity-defying felines. She sleeps in a fairy bed, lifted high in the air, and upon waking, she enjoys stabbing people with tiny needles, over and over, under the guise of making pretty pictures on their skin. She paints dark images on canvases in a cave-like studio carved out of the side of a cliff, and beautiful murals on the walls of her home directly above. She's happiest with her nose buried in a book or in her laptop as she writes her novels.
She is the author of several books, including the Godhunter series, Feeding the Lwas, The Magic of Fabric, Enchantress, and Bargains of the Heart. She's been writing since she was a little girl but first decided to pursue writing as a career when she gave her High School English teacher one of her books to critique and unbeknownst to her, that teacher passed her book around to all of her friends. A month later she was accosted in the halls by a teacher she didn't know, begging her to write a sequel. She's been writing novels ever since.
She enjoys serious, kick-ass heroines in her literature. "Nothing is more endearing than a woman who goes up against overwhelming supernatural odds with a sense of humor," she says. "Who wouldn't want to be that woman? I want to be that woman. So that's who I write about, the woman I want to be and the men I want to be with."
She's always been fascinated with mythology and world religions, believing that the way to best know a people is to get to know their gods. "Religion is such a huge part of a lot of people's lives, a motivating factor that can lead them to great sacrifice as well as great violence. I try to stay true to the descriptions of the gods I incorporate into my books and respect the cultures they came from. I think if we'd learn to respect everyone's religion and not just our own, there would be a lot less violence and hatred in the world."
She's also an artist and you can find her paintings for sale on She paints a series of "Living Voodou Dolls" and also scenes inspired by Hawaii. She enjoys the unusually beautiful as well as the obviously beautiful. It's hard to ignore paradise when you're living in it.
