4.0 out of 5 stars Great EP, not an outstanding effort though
This is not much of a new record, 3 new songs, 1 old song (that has also be used in other 2 records of Dimmu Borgir: Raabjorn Speiler Draugheimens Skodde) and 3 live songs.

The real thrill of the album for me was the live tracks because Dimmu Borgir would never fall in this island for a concert. Good music, not too good sound. But it is worth a try.

Dimmu's second EP (if you count the split album with Old Man's Child as an EP) is comprised of two new tracks, one cover, three live recordings and two updated versions of songs from For All Tid. The live recordings are all very good, no complaints. The cover seems rather pointless. The two new tracks are both good with Moonchild Domain being the better of the two. It is the updated versions of the tracks from For All Tid that stand out the most for me. The improved sound quality and arrangments of these songs make them far superior to the originals in my opinion. Overall I recommend this disc to diehards only, newcomers should instead seek out the original version of "Stormblast", "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant", "Spiritual Black Dimensions" and "Puritanical Euphoric Misantrhopia".

I've listened to this a few times and it's incredibly forgettable and ignorable. For some reason, nothing on it captures my attention except the first few moments of the first song.

5.0 out of 5 stars SAVAGELY GOOD BLACK METAL!!, November 28, 2006

To correct DARKDEATH below, there are 5 STUDIO songs from the EP and 3 LIVE tracks. Buy the DELUXE EDITION whichs includes the 2 extra LIVE tracks bringing the total to 5 LIVE ones. I like it too, man.

I bought this on a whim without sampling it because I love DIMMU BORGIR. Unluckyfrank got lucky and only paid 7 bucks for it at Tower's Going Out of Business Sale. Now, it's one of my favorites!! If you're a fan, this is definitely worth your attention!! This is worth it just for the BLACK STUDIO tracks alone!! Hell's Fire!! The LIVE s@#t is great too!!

STUDIO tracks 1 & 3, MOONCHILD DOMAIN and CHAOS WITHOUT MERCY, have the lyrics printed inside. MOONCHILD DOMAIN is about a demonic whore by the name of Eliza. Apparently she eats the souls of the sick and innocent. Damn!! The third track, CHAOS WITHOUT PROPHECY, as near as I can tell, is about a king who summons a demon named Azunda. The demon posesses the king and gets to spread his evil on Earth while destroying the prophecy that he be locked out of creation. Holy S@#t!! And then there's The Classic SPELLBOUND BY THE DEVIL(LIVE)!! Great LIVE rendition!!

AN INSANE BLACK METAL MIX of 5 STUDIO and 5 LIVE tracks from one of the greatest SATANIC BLACK METAL bands of all time!! If you don't belong in their coven, just don't get near them when the moon is full. They may need fresh blood!!

ENJOY THE DARKSIDE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent EP!, August 3, 2004

The live songs on here are great, even better than the studio. Plus Astennu (their guitarist at the time) was playing here, which added superior playing ability to the songs. I wonder how much better Dimmu's later albums would have been if Astennu were still in the band. As for the regular tracks, well "Chaos Without Prophecy" is my favorite studio song on this EP. Highly recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely good metal, nothing too fantastic, July 14, 2000
This review is from: Godless Savage Garden (Dlx) (Audio CD)
Dimmu Borgir are probably the third most well-known and popular band of the european black metal scene behind the infamous Emperor and Cradle of Filth. Overall I have to say this is a good example of the band, not too bad for a first time Dimmu Borgir fan. Yet i do have to say also that these guys really don't do anything too interesting or fantastic. Dont' get me wrong, i really like some of these songs, but the vocals just aren't very good at all, not screechy, rhaspy, grunty, but not clean at all. Just a bit of terrible throaty oddness reminiscent of voice overs for monsters in fantasy films. The musicians are all quite adept and creative, but the riffs sound very power metal-ish, with blastbeats going on in the background a long with the keyboards, which aren't quite as high in the mix or as prominent as in past albums (Then again, this technically isn't a real album) These mix in an odd way and don't come out as either very dark or very upbeat, and considering Shagrath's goofy evil commentery, these boys just don't fit in, and something about this album sounds a little incongruent. Consisting of remakes of songs from their first album, 2 new songs, 1 cover (Metal Heart by Accept, which may be the h ighlight of the album) and 3 live songs, it gives a brief overview of the bands history and their current sound, and they really havent' changed much. However, i do feel as though i'm being too negative. I really like this band and think they're excellent, but there are a lot of other amazing bands in this style who are a bit better. I recommend 'Stormblast' the highest of their albums, and then 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant' (which is good, but highly unoriginal). Their other albums are half formed and not too spectacular. For long time fans or newbies interested in the material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, January 7, 2008
This review is from: Godless Savage Garden (Dlx) (Audio CD)
This album is one of the best albums of all time. It's hard to find an old Dimmu Album that does not sound anything less then perfect. Other then that Great Vocals, guitar riffs and the Symphonic atmosphere you expect from Dimmu Borgir.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dimmu Borgir Rules! This Is Cathedral Music For The Damned!, October 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Godless Savage Garden (Dlx) (Audio CD)
Life is HORRIFIC!!! Death and Black Metal fanatics know this! And so does Dimmu Borgir! Godless Savage Garden was a stop-gap release to hold fans over until the new '99 album (Spiritual Black Dimensions) came out, but it is still an essential album for any Black Metal fan to own! Shagrath has THE best voice in the genre, in my opinion, and the music is always intricate, layered, and compelling in its ability to portray deep anguish and terror. Impressively, a lot of classical influences are woven into their powerful and dark soundscapes. I'm usually not a big fan of the synthesizer, but in Dimmu Borgir music, the keybords add a creepy and ominous strain. "Moonchild Domain" and "Chaos Without Prophecy" will shake you to the core. And just listen to the live cuts and you will know that, someday, you will have to experience these Black Metal giants in concert./// The world would be a better place if more people faced their deep pain. Dimmu Borgir albums, and all good Death and Black Metal music, can help you do that. This is not silly, adolescent music you will outgrow. This is serious music that will deepen you emotionally and advance your personality. Don't listen to the ignorant and shallow people who tell you to just "be happy" and that will solve everything. Instead, work-through your pain and you will arrive at some real happiness./// Anyone have any rare, collectible DB items for trade? Contact me if you do.
