5.0 out of 5 stars Mandoza is kwaito at it's best, July 14, 2002

Mandoza, more than any other artist, defines South African pop culture.
One of the biggest mistakes Westerners tend to make when they think of African music is that we think of TRADITIONAL African music. Djembe drums, women ululating, everything we're used to seeing on melodramatic education programs.
What we forget is that Africa is changing, just like the rest of the world; and its music--by necessity--is changing too. While traditional music is important to the South African culture, that doesn't mean its what kids listen to when they get home from school, or what their parents play at parties after work.
If you walk through the townships on the Cape Flats in South Africa today, the music you'll hear coming from the cars you pass will be kwaito, a local style combining elements of techno, hip-hop and reggae. If you want to hear South African music, start with kwaito.
And remember that, these days, Mandoza is the kwaito king.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mandoza Rocks!, October 15, 2002

This has to be Mandoza's best album yet. He is the KING of Kwaito.

Mandoza's voice is full of energy and is complimented by bruising bass. You will find yourself singing along even if you don't understand Xhoza (one of South Africa's official languages). This album is great for parties or perfect driving music.

If you only buy one CD this year ensure that it is GODOBA. This is an essential Kwaito purchase!
