Beautiful Guitar Jazz-Rock,

This review is from: Gods & Devils (Audio CD)
Shark Quest's most recent album is one of the better intrumental albums of recent times. Blending beautiful guitar melodies with inspired beats and producing a sound my friends have called "surf jazz", the band continues to impress. I recommend for lovers of jazz or rock, for the album could easily be considered either one.

The best of their albums as far as I'm concerned. Beautiful intricate riffs wind through rhythms that at times are quasi-dancable (Katherine of Krakow). A friend of mine described this album as "Math rock for those who hate math rock." While I don't totally agree and don't find many similarities to the in your face drums and 13/8, 7/8, 11/8 signatures of bands that define math rock (Rush, King Crimson, Yes) I can see where she was coming from and I think musicians can appreciate the effort the band put into playing outside the box.
