Finally, the end to fad diets!

We've all tried the impossible-to-maintain trendy diets that often deliver immediate results only to backfire the moment our vigilance wanes. God's Diet is the only diet you'll ever need. There are no annoying calculations, no food exchanges -- no fall-off-the-wagon syndrome. Dr. Gault-McNemee teaches you:
How to trim down and improve your health and energy effortlessly
That everything you need to lose weight is at your local grocery store--no pills, powders, or shakes
How to get in the habit of choosing natural, wholesome food over gimmicky "diet" food, fast food, and food full of sugar and additives
That weight loss can be a straightforward, successful, and lasting process

God's Diet is the solution to chronic dieting because it relies on the simplest, most tried-and-true food path to health and healthy eating -- one our society has chosen to ignore for decades. Just remember, if God didn't make it, don't eat it!

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Gault-McNemee, a physician in New Mexico who had been overweight most of her life, developed this unconventional diet "knowing that there really had to be a healthy way to eat good food and feel satisfied." The result of her own struggles and of working with overweight patients in her practice, this book, which she first self-published in 1996, uses as its guideline the motto "If God didn't make it, don't eat it." In other words, we should limit our intake to what we can pick, pluck, scale, or butcher. The book argues that we are slowly killing ourselves by what we eat, especially refined sugar; another section gives case examples from the author's patients showing how effective the diet has been for them. A large part of the book is devoted to recipes; Gault-McNemee also includes lists of allowable foods, forbidden foods, and swing foodsAnot all good, not all bad, and to be used sparingly. Her presentation is logical, building a convincing case for this lifelong eating plan. For consumer health collections and in public libraries.

From the Inside Flap

Dorothy Gault-McNemee is a medical doctor who had tried every diet she could find to control the weight gains that had plagued her throughout her life. As the founding physician of a busy health clinic, she also saw that overweight patients who were suffering from a variety of diseases were far worse off than those who had their weight under control.

As a result, Dr. Gault-McNemee began to examine what we eat and what our slimmer, healthier ancient forebears ate. They didn't have processed foods and access to sugar; they weren't consuming alcohol and foods that had been mixed with artificial ingredients they couldn't pronounce. They were eating what God put on this earth: meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, grains, and nuts. And thus was God's Diet born.

In other words, if you can't pick it, pluck it, pull it from the earth, or scale it, don't eat it. If you pick up a can or a package of food that includes even one ingredient that you can't identify, don't eat it. Dr. Gault-McNemee also cautions that far too many foods contain sugar as an additive, from cereal to bread to canned vegetables.

Prepare foods simply and avoid sugar, but while you're at it, have a steak and a baked potato with butter and sour cream.

In God's Diet, Dr. Gault-McNemee has compiled numerous case studies from her own practice; inspiring advice from people like herself, whose lives have been changed for the better; information on vitamins, minerals, and cholesterol; and menu-planning advice and delicious recipes. The doctor has also prepared three lists of foods: those which you can eat all you reasonably want, those you should avoid, and a "swing list" of foods that you may enjoy occasionally and with limitations.

God's Diet enables you to lose weight simply and naturally without having to remember any complex diet regimen. By incorporating simple habits into our lives -- paying attention to food labels, drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day, and exercising reasonably -- we can easily and radically change the way we live, while becoming healthier and living longer.

Never has there been a simpler or more logically thought out weight-control guide. There is nothing to count or exchange, no special foods to buy.

Everything you need to live a slimmer, healthier life is in your supermarket, if you follow the advice of Dr. Gault-McNemee, whose vast experience with fad diets and overweight patients led her to conceive this brilliant little book.

This truly is the last diet book you'll ever buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars God's Wisdom!, May 31, 2000
By A Customer
I am finally losing fat! I found this book one afternoon in a bookstore just when I was at the end of my dieting rope...frustrated in the fact that I was trying to change my diet, but not getting anywhere in the fat loss department. I tried low carb, low sugar (which are both good, just not the total answer for me), and other approaches, although still eating some whole grain breads and crackers and other whole grain, but man made products. After much prayer, I found this book and I am now losing fat steadily after removing these whole grain-but man made items. I eat balanced meals, I'm never hungry, have lots of energy and I'm finally sleeping well! God's Diet is easy to shop and cook on, and easy to stay on for my busy soccer mom schedule. I have found my answer....and God in His wisdom knew what to do all the time!

5.0 out of 5 stars It Really Works!!, October 19, 2003
By
This review is from: God's Diet: A Short & Simple Way to Eat Naturally, Lose Weight, and Live a Healthier Life (Paperback)
I woke up one day and stepped on the scale and when it showed that I was closely approaching 200 lbs, it scared me to death. I knew I had to do something. I had never started any diets because all of them restricted what I could eat and most were made up of vegetables which I hate. I went online and read into the Atkin's Diet. I took a quiz on their site which told me that I was addicted to Carbs and Sugar and it was affecting my health, my well being and my sanity. I went to the library but I couldn't find the Atkins book. The title, "God's Diet" caught my attention. I decided a little help from up above couldn't hurt and I took it home. When I read it I was happy that it wasn't filled with bible quotes and that it was easy to read. I read more into it and I was surprised at how I was poisoning my body with all the chemicals in processed foods. I said, That's it, I am not eating any of that stuff ever again. That was in April 2003. It is now October and I am still following the diet. Exactly 6 months later and I feel awesome. I have lost almost 50 pounds and 6 pant sizes. No joking! I don't care about how she's not following the bible. I am a Catholic who attends church weekly. God is my friend. He has helped me so much and I know that it was He who put this book in front of me at the library. I don't need anyone to tell me what I should and should not eat. All I needed was a little advice. Everyone in my family has told me how proud they are of me and how there is no way they could give up bread and pasta and soda. I tell them that it is easy when you can have steak and mashed potatoes and eggs. It doesn't feel like you are suffering. I have not been hungry once. I eat brown rice, chicken, potatoes, eggs, bacon, beef, salad, all kinds of fruits, beans and nuts. I can have seafood I just don't like it. I ended up purchasing the book because of all the people who kept asking me to borrow it. I feel like a walking advertisement. I am still not at my ideal weight but I know that I can be there and soon. All I need to do is continue the diet and exercise and drink lots of water. I feel that this is something that I can continue for the rest of my life. I used to be addicted to things like Oreos and Ice Cream and Chocolate. Now I am addicted to sunflower seeds, and peanuts and grapes. Those are my munchies now. There is no portion control with this diet. As long as you follow the principle, "If God Didn't make it, then don't eat it!" you will be fine. This book is a little pricey for its size but I highly recommend it. If you don't want to purchase it then look for it in the library. It is so easy that all you need to do is read through it once and you won't have to read it again. One thing that helped a lot was some advice that was in the book, if someone offers you a food that you know you can't have, don't say, " I can't eat that." instead say "I don't eat that anymore." There is a big difference. I have to admit that it was hard at first especially since I live with 6 other people and none of them are following it with me. If you just believe in yourself you can do this too. Another thing, I lost 50 pounds without exercise! Yes you read that right, NO EXERCISE!! Even though the author does recommend exercise, I just never got around to it and I still lost weight. I just recently started doing sit ups and crunches so that I can get rid of my sagging belly. So I am just going to try and tone up but the diet gets rid of everything else. I look at my before and after pictures and I am amazed that that person was me.

4.0 out of 5 stars God's Diet Works, February 11, 2001
God's Diet is the shortest, easiest and most absorbable book I have read on the subject of weight loss. If you need to make a production out of weight loss by counting points, weighing food or combining foods then save your money. This plan is so simple and makes so much sense you will wonder how weight loss ever got to be so complicated.
