5.0 out of 5 stars Football in the Limelight
Not that football is just a seasonal sport, but as soon as Christmas passes all eyes are on the various Bowl games and Football is the focus. Pedro Virgil visits the stadiums at night and in the day and captures the almost Romanesque or Greek feeling of sports. Noted for his prowess in fashion and commercial photography, Australian photographer Virgil here keeps his eye...

2.0 out of 5 stars I could have done better.
I could have done a better job with this book and I'm not even a professional photographer. I could have done a better job with this book and I'm not even a professional photographer. It's a great book simply because it's hardcover with large, full color photos of beautiful men, but the photographer is basically talentless. Some of the photos were blurry, some were off-center, and the rest just had poor composition. Some of the props and outfits were ridiculous and didn't even make sense when put in the context of rugby. I mean, come on, cowboys? Seriously? And cowboys without horses at that!

The photographer is a joke. This book is exactly what you would expect from a photographer who just wants to shoot oiled up guys and junk lumps. No vision, no artistry. Just fail. It's like a glorified underwear shoot minus the well-paid marketers. Not worth $69 bucks, that's for sure.

Not that football is just a seasonal sport, but as soon as Christmas passes all eyes are on the various Bowl games and Football is the focus. Pedro Virgil visits the stadiums at night and in the day and captures the almost Romanesque or Greek feeling of sports. Noted for his prowess in fashion and commercial photography, Australian photographer Virgil here keeps his eye on football and the men who play it.

The models selected for this monographer are particularly fine - well built sportsmen with the emphasis on the body as an anatomic wonder. Rarely are these models out of uniform - though at many times they are in only portions of uniform, or even in the showers post-practice or post-game. His most artistic works are those where the players are but a segment of the overall size of the stadium for the game - whether kneeling, or relaxing or just letting the excitement of the game play first. His color is saturated and bold and the reproduction in this impressive volume is true and exact. Many photographic artists use a theme for background purposes only, the point of the photograph being to emphasize the models. Not Virgil. Here the concept is unified and as important are the perfectly proportioned players are, the overall view is of the sport itself. This is a fine adjunct to the televised obsession with football - especially at this time of year. Grady Harp, December 10

I found this absolutely erotic yet tasteful! Perfect coffee table conversational piece. Would love to blow some of the pics up and hang them up. This along with the others I purchased also were produced for and support great causes so I feel it was a great purchase that gives!
