Book Description

March 25, 2006
Cardinal Arinze, the first African prelate to head a major Vatican office, tells his amazing life story growing up in Nigeria, and how he was guided by "God's invisible hand" through many challenging and dangerous moments, to become one of the world's leading Catholic prelates, and one of the top candidates for Pope in the recent papal conclave.

In the style of the popular book length interviews done by Cardinal Ratzinger (Salt of the Earth, God & the World), Arinze responds to a host of wide ranging questions from journalist Gerard O'Connell. Arinze talks about his life and experiences growing up in Nigeria, becoming the world's youngest Bishop, being on the run during the Nigerian civil war, and as an outspoken Cardinal who led the way for inter-religious dialogue with non-Christian religions, particularly Muslims, Buddhists and Hindus.

The charismatic Cardinal, also tells about his years of working inside the Vatican under three different Popes, and of his close relationship with John Paul II. Arinze and John Paul worked together on various important projects and documents that have had an impact on the Church and the African culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars A series of interviews with His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, September 2, 2006
This review is from: God's Invisible Hand: The Life and Work of Francis Cardinal Arinze (Paperback)
God's Invisible Hand: The Life And Work Of Francis Cardinal Arinze by journalist Gerard O'Connell compiles a series of interviews with His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, the only African cardinal currently heading a Vatican department. Essentially relating the story of Arinze's life in his own words, from his conversion to Christianity at age nine to studying in Rome and London, to working as a priest in Nigeria, becoming the world's youngest bishop, being appointed by Pope John Paul II in 1982 to lead the Catholic Church's dialogue with major world religions, and more, God's Invisible Hand offers Arinze's reflections upon his extraordinary journey of faith and labor in God's name. A handful of black-and-white photographs round out this compelling primary source of one man's dedication to God's cause.
