The ancient world of Bellarion struggled in the never ending war of Gods. The conflict began when Xarax, ruler of the Gods, was murdered. Each of the remaining Gods claimed the right to the Divine Throne. After many battles, the defeated Gods refused to submit to the victors and instead summoned their armies to attack the worshippers of other Gods. The deaths of those worshippers weakened the power of the conquering Gods. After 2000 years of battles, Bellarion lay in ruins. No one was able to achieve victory until the God of Darkness, Mortagon, found a new weapon which resisted all magic and divine powers. As the last hope Arswaargh, the God of Fire, created Vivien, who he fashioned after his own astral body. Arswaargh sent Vivien through space and time to seek the counter-weapon needed to defy Mortagorn, but unfortunately, she lost her divine essence while traveling through the magical portal to another world. Vivien must now seek the Gods of the new world, gain back her power and search for the counter-weapon against Mortagorn.
GODS: Lands of Infinity Special Edition is a blend of adventure and action in a turn-based setting. There is an array of missions and NPC (non player characters) that players can add to their team. Players must fight, gain experience, level and acquire new skills. The game is played out in the first-person perspective, until gamers enter a battle encounter, at which point the game goes into third-person turn-based battle. I recently finished "GODS: Lands of Infinity - Special Edition", and I would note that I had fun. I would recommend this to all RPG fans, although I would only recommend this to RPG fans; it doesn't have much for those of us who aren't genre enthusiasts.

The graphics and sound are outdated, and the translation from the original Slovakian is consistently quite questionable. That said, the story is interesting enough, if a tad generic. GODS follows the story of Vivien (played by supermodel Kyla Cole), a divine avatar sent to the kingdom of Slavingrad in order to try and find a counterweapon to overthrow the evil god Mortagorn, who has taken over the world of her patron god.

GODS has some interesting twists, and you get to meet some interesting characters along the way. I actually grew attached to a number of my party members, and was saddened to see them vanish without a trace halfway through the game. The turn-based combat mechanic is quite interesting; not terribly complicated, but with sufficient depth to provide you some strategic decision-making.

Buying commodities cheap and selling them dear in order to obtain more gold for better weapons purchases is a necessary part of this game. I enjoyed it, although it grew a tad boring on occasion. It could have been considerably improved with a few easy fixes, though; the addition of an in-game mechanism for tracking prices in different towns would have made the job considerably easier. It also occasionally felt like a generic FedEx quest.

All in all, GODS provides a reasonable amount of bargain-priced fun and enjoyment. If you're tired of Oblivion and can't wait for Dragon Age, GODS will assist in filling in the gap.

This RPG is from one of the Eastern European countries and is actually fairly well done technically. The 3D graphics are acceptable to good, the voiceovers are drily delivered but better than a lot of similar games,and I only experienced one CTD in a complete playthrough. The translations aren't perfect but aren't glaringly bad, either. The turn-based combat is challenging but fun - for the most part. The mercantile system is interesting: there is much money to be made transporting goods. Exploration can be a pain; trudging through huge cleared areas pops up a few times during the course of the game. The real problem with this RPG (the reason I couldn't give it more than 3 stars, despite that I enjoyed my time with it) is the story. It's mostly a lot of nonsensical gibberish, with a fair smattering of tired cliches. Most irritating for me were the plot twists, especially as they related to party constitution, which made it very difficult to do any long term planning for skills, items, etc. The ending was likely the worst I've ever seen (and I've seen a LOT of game endings). Without spoiling anything, I'll just say that finishing an RPG (a good one, anyway) is supposed to make the player feel that something has been accomplished, and that the player has made a difference in the little fantasy world. Don't expect any of that here. In summary, this game is a fun diversion for a while (12-16 hours, for me) if you've already played all of the truly great RPGs to death and want something new. As long as an ending that isn't terrible and pointless isn't mandatory for you.
