Terry Virgo is the leader of the Newfrontiers family of charismatic evangelical churches. Born and raised in Brighton, England, he started a small church movement which has grown into an international group of churches in 29 nations. He is well known for his teaching on grace and the importance of the local church.
I would HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone wanting to get a balanced look at God's grace. It has been such a great blessing to me that I have now sent up to a dozen copies to friends around the world. Terry does an excellent job of laying out the reasons why Christians should NOT be wrestling with issues of "the law," but living in such gratitude to Jesus for His sacrifice that their heart's one desire is to please Him. After all, Jesus came to set us free from the law of sin and death. Yet, Terry balances his teaching of grace by pointing out that grace is not a license to sin, but a freedom to enter into dynamic relationship with our merciful God. It is God's intention to free us to live a life guided by His Spirit, eager to follow Christ wherever He calls us. This book is a "must read" for every serious believer!
When I first heard Terry Virgo speak on grace, it changed my life. Over time this truth began to transform how I thought & lived. This book captures this wonderful message in a way that teaches & stirs you. It truly is a "too good to be true" message! I particularly liked his approach to living the Christian life founded upon the truth that we "reign in life" because of His love and not one's own works. He also addresses how grace teaches us to live obediently out of grace rather than out of the Law, guilt and the "have-to" mentality so prevalent today. If you're looking to learn to live more fully out of freedom and God's choice to love you...take up and read!
Great book. You'll return to it again and again for hope, encouragement and to treasure the great doctrines of our awesome God and Saviour Jesus Christ. This book makes a great gift and might help a non believer see and savor Christ as Lord and Saviour.
I really liked this book. It's a very balanced presentation of the gospel. Worth reading more than once. He's got some audio presentations online of this same book which I've listened to several times now - check it out. I'm not a fan of "Once Saved Always Saved" or Calvinism. I'm not sure where Terry stands, but his presentation did not come across as irresponsible (e.g. he doesn't shrug off the need to repent, but gives us the correct motive for doing so). He focuses us on our new identify "in Christ", and the proper motives for holiness. Anyone constantly beating themselves up over sin and struggling with guilt should definitely check this book out. I've given this book 4 out of 5 stars because, he does not address the possibility that a believer "once saved" can reject salvation. Our motive should be love, but there should be a sober understanding of the consequences of our choices.
