Book Description

Summoned to Rome by an old friend, a Jesuit scholar finds himself using a code discovered in the Bible to unearth an ancient, hidden chapel in the catacombs under the city. When a rogue force of Vatican security officials are alerted to his discovery, the priest flees to the Holy Land with a clue ... a clue that will lead him and a team of Israeli Christians to a much larger secret in the middle of the barren Negev Desert.

Meticulously researched and drawing on scientific fact, John Lyman's intriguing story takes readers into the world of scholars, archaeologists, code-breakers, and intelligence specialists who have discovered a prophetic code hidden within the Old Testament that authenticates the Bible as a book of supernatural origin and points to a divine plan. This gripping novel is truly a thought-provoking and action-packed thriller with implications for our future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roller Coaster Thriller February 5, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have never read a roller coaster thriller like this before. Well researched and masterfully woven, this novel by John Lyman will glue you to your seat then have you hanging on with your fingernails as you take that unexpected hairpin turn. The struggle between good and evil is not contrived as in many popular thriller novels produced within the past 5-10 years. The manner in which protagonist, Leopold Amodeo (Leo) is presented, leading his band of Lions through the discovery of and confrontation with the antagonist is done with expert craftsmanship. The characters are believeable and vulnerable, not superhuman and all-knowing, which aids in making the novel much more approachable for the reader.
Since I work during the day, I would lay in bed reading at night, grab my husband's arm and with an "oh my gosh..." tell him about the next twist in the plot. From the prologue right though the last chapter this author had my attention. The epilogue left me wishing the book would never end. I can not wait for John's next book to be published!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Story February 6, 2011
By Linda
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the sequel to come out. It explored some themes I had not thought of. It was fast-paced and had good characters. I would like to see some of them more fully developed in the next book, like Lev, Ariella, and the Code Breaking team. I thought building in and telling the reader what each person's name meant was a great touch. It helped bring the story together. I don't usually write reviews for books, but I did for this one because I truly enjoyed reading it. Keep up the good work, Mr. Lyman, and thanks for the good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, and without irreverence February 22, 2011
By Spoons
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I often enjoy reading religious fiction, but don't enjoy the books with authors whom choose to debase my Christian faith. This was a great book that held my interest, and I really enjoyed it. I'm hoping to this author will have another title out soon. I was really glad it was available through Kindle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Descriptions and narration September 26, 2011
When John Lyman sent me the the book pitch, what caught my attention was that this book contained the theme of codes in the Torah. Intrigued, I couldn't turn down this book. What I liked about this book was the vivid portrayal of some scenes, especially the scenes involving spiritual encounters. I could easily picture those scenes and I shuddered at just thought of them. I also liked the way this book reinforces that Scripture is God-breathed and everything happens for a reason. However, this book is not without its faults. The narration was awkward at a few parts, especially the parts where similes were used. I also found it unthinkable that a priest could exclaim "Oh, my God." I don't come from a Catholic background, I come from a Protestant background. And I can't imagine any of the pastors I know exclaiming "Oh, my God." That would be viewed as sacrilegious. I completed God's Lions: The Secret Chapel with mixed feelings. I loved the vivid descriptions and will definitely pick this book up when I want to read a horror story, but I felt that the narration could have been better.

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. 5.0 out of 5 stars A New Dan Brown December 25, 2009
I could not put this book down. It is well written, researched and most importantly it is so absolutely unpredictable. I thought I had it all figured out when it took a completely unanticipated turn and the turn was perfect. Dan Brown watch out you have some serious competition here! There are going to be a lot of people late for appointments because when you start this you won't want to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars hold on to your seat March 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I have always been fascinated with the theories about codes in the Torah and when I discovered that The Secret Chapel involved these codes in the plot I purchased the book. I often find that thrillers don't hold my attention because I can guess what is going to happen. Not so with this book. Twists and turns, vivid character and scene development drew me in and the plot kept me reading. I highly recommend this book as it is well researched and interesting. Not the cookie cutter cloak and dagger thrillers that are common, this is a book that makes you think and involves you in asking questions about your beliefs, but is in no way overbearing in religious or spiritual thought.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I've read all year! February 8, 2011
By Ed J
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"God's Lions" is one of those books that not only makes you think, but entertains you with a wonderful story at the same time. You know it's good when you put it down and go about your everyday life and the characters are still in your thoughts. I've read that there are two kinds of fiction - plot driven and character driven. I would have to say that this novel is both. The story by itself is fascinating, and the plot is obviously the work of a master storyteller. However, the characters are so real that you feel you know them, and finishing the book is actually painful. You are forced to close contact with a group of people you have come to know and love. I may have to read it again until the sequel comes out.
