The Best Tales from Madlands, February 12, 2000
This review is from: God's Little Isthmus (Paperback)
Whether or not you've read Madlands, you will love this Maupinesque story of those sorts of just-beyond-normal-so-that-they're-real characters you meet in life if you live in SF or NOLA or Madison, WI. If you've lived in or dreamed of a place where you can lie on the Capitol lawn and smoke pot (well, maybe once a year, years ago), where you can vote for (or against) a nudist-feminist-former Lesbian for city council, where you can hail a cabby with a Ph.D who is gay and the father of the city council aspirant's young son -- where you can indulge yourself in the most rigorous and Puritanical extremes of liberal political correctness, or else skewer PC and have good old libertine fun -- well, then, you must read this intelligent and always delightful novel. Oh, I'm signing this, so check page two so you'll know I read the book. Meticulously.
