More Devotional, Than Bible,
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
God's Little Princess Devotional Bible features Scripture selections from the International Children's Bible (ICB).
Here are some of the other features of this book: "Down In My Heart", "Beauty Secrets", "Bible Princesses", "My Hero", "Take A Bow", "I Adore You!", "Princess Charming", "Worthy of Love", and "Royal Truths." The "Take A Bow" features share a dramatized skit for mothers and daughters to perform together. "I Adore You!" focuses on songs, music, praising God. "Princess Charming" is all about manners and etiquette. "Bible Princesses" focuses on women from the Bible. "Down In My Heart" focuses on memory verses. Each feature serves a purpose. I suppose that is where the "devotional" part comes in. If you've got a young girl in your life--daughter, granddaughter, niece--then she may enjoy this one. Especially if she loves pink. Especially if she loves dressing up. Especially if she's a girly-girl. But not all girls love these things. Some of these activities ("devotions") may be more appealing than others. I am not such a big fan of this one. But that doesn't mean you won't be. I would have liked to see more Scripture, less devotion. More emphasis on sharing God's Word, less attention on the activities and extensions. It depends on the reader I suppose.

Book Review - God's Little Princess Devotional Bible,
By
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
With two little princesses in my own home, I completely relate to the idea that every little girls wants to be her own princess. This book does a great job at working to help parents to aid their daughters in the process of not only becomming their princess but as the book explains, God's princess.
The book itself is very easy to read and understandable to young girls. The book is geared toward girls ages 4-7, but it could be read by ages a bit older as well. I found that the book itself it truly written on the level of a young girl. With terms typically heard from a young girls' mouth, my eldest (Diva-J) had an easy time relating to what was said. I also liked the fact that the book itself was written with many interactive components within it as well. Using not only the written language, but interspersing skits and other interactive components makes the stories, morals and values presented jump off the page. I liked how the book was broken into different parts, including such things as: Down in my heart - scripture memory Beauty secrets - how to be "beautiful" Bible - Princesses- girls and women of the Bible My hero - scripture promises Take a bow - dress-up and role-playing ideas I adore you - kids songs and worship ideas Princess charming - teaching manners, poise and charm Overall this book was definitely a keeper and one that I would definitely recommend to all my reader who have daughters or who are connected to others with daughters!

a devotional Bible for girls,
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
As my daughter is getting ready to turn one, I am really starting to think about what resources are available to help me as a parent. I think I know what the boys need a lot better than I know what my little girl needs. So, when I saw God's Little Princess Devotional Bible, I was quick to pick it up. This devotional Bible is geared toward girls age 4-7 and I would say Walsh has done a good job writing for that age group. The Scriptures are taken from the International Children's bible, which means they are written so that little girls will understand the verses.
Along with the Scripture, this devotional Bible contains several other features. Everything from Scripture memory, tips on being beautiful on the inside, profiles of women in the Bible, Scripture promises, skits, songs to sing, teaching manners and values. Each feature is full of fun activities and questions to help your little princess grow. If you are looking for something to help you and your daughter spend time in the Bible together, God's Little Princess Devotional Bible will be a huge help. There is only one problem I have with this book: the almost complete absence of dads within its pages. There are only four mentions of "dad" throughout the book, all in the combination of "mom and dad." A few other times, parents are mentioned. But every other time there is a reference to a parent, it is always mom. And I understand the need for daughters to spend time with their mothers and the fact that during the day mothers are more likely to be home, but let's not neglect dads. If there was a mention at the beginning of the book stating it was going to focus on the mother/daughter relationship, then I would be fine with it. If you are a dad like me and want to use this devotional with your daughter, then you will need to adjust some of the wording.

Missed the Mark... Sorry,
By Henry Zonio "Elemental Children's Ministry" (Thunder Bay, ON Canada) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
If my 4- and 7-year-old daughters are any indication of what many little girls are like, they will want to get this plastic jewel-encrusted, tiara-bearing devotional Bible written by Sheila Walsh and published by Thomas Nelson.
"Every girl is a princess, the daughter of a King... the greatest King who created and rules over everything." This sentence from the Introduction for Parents sums up the purpose of the God's Little Princess Devotional Bible, which seems to be a follow up to the Gigi, God's Little Princess stories also by Sheila Walsh. The devotional Bible has selected passages from the Internation Children's Bible followed by a number of features including Bible verse memorization, tips on being a beautiful person, highlights of "princesses" in the Bible, dramas, ways to worship God, etc. The Bible also features illustrations by Meredith Johnson from the Gigi stories (which bear an uncanny resemblance to Fancy Nancy). While I appreciate the thought behind this devotional Bible, I was confused as to the age group this was targeted to. The illustrations would suggest that children ages 4-7 would want this devotional, but as you read through it you quickly find that the writing is more geares for a 10-year-old. In addition to that, a parent would have to have grown up in a conservative evangelical church to know any of the lyrics or tunes to the songs in many of the activities. This would definitely be a frustrating book for parents who are new Christians to use with their daughters. I wish I could recommend this devotional because the idea is great and it looks cute. Unfortunately, this devotional needed the help of people trained in child spiritual development and education to edit and revise the the written features so they were age appropriate and aware of families who may be new to following Christ. my review of God's little princess,
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
what can i say about this bible? I LOVE IT! so do my girls. hannah is 7 and rebekah is 5 and every night we cuddle in bed and read a section. it is not a verse by verse bible, like mine, but is story in form of the bible stories we know and love.
each section contains several parts as you read above. they really help to carve the Word into my girls . not just a read "em and go to bed type of bible story but rather one that makes them think. one that teaches. one the girls look forward to each night. if you have a little girl you want to treat to something special to then this would be a great gift!

Princess Storybook,

This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
I have been reading God's LIttle Princess Devotional Bible by Sheila
Walsh. I would say this is a book written for girls ages 7-10. Its features include Songs, Beauty Secrets (quick tips on how to be "beautiful"), Stories of girls and women on the bible who made a difference,Role-playing and Plays, Articles that teach manners, poise and charm, Ways to extend the lessons to family and friends and Values from the Bible that "every princess should posess." After reading through this book I found the plays to be easy to do with little props required. The book contains simple colorful graphics . It aso has simple activities for girls at the end of every lesson to extend and reinforce the main idea of the lesson. I was disappointed that the Songs listed contained the lyrics but no notes/music. So I'm not sure how girls are supposed to do much with the songs if they aren't familiar ones. Then I gave the book to my daughter to read to my granddaughters. They are ages 4 and 6. The girls really liked it, especially the acting out parts. Their mom however was not so fond of it. They read before bed and it took WAY too long to get through one section/story at bedtime. Agewise, she thought it was more appropriate for the 6 year-old and older girls. The older one could answer some of the reflective questions at the end. The four-year old didn't seem to get those quite yet. I would recommend the book for girls ages 7-10. They would be able to read the book on their own and then with help from an adult could put on the plays, discuss the reflective questions and do the activities at the end of each lesson.

A Great Bible for a Little Girl,
By
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
God's Little Princess Devotional Bible by Sheila Walsh
Bible Text selections from the International Children's Bible This devotional Bible is made especially for the little girl. Various features set about to help the King's daughter grow spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically through reading, memorizing scriptures, and participating in activities designed to make her beautiful inside and out. A Table of Contents can help her go back to a favorite activity and/or story. The child that cannot read yet will enjoy looking at the pleasing illustrations drawn by Sheila Walsh and Meredith Johnson. The stories are written in language the early reader can read. Scripture text is listed at the end of the each story for further review. Role playing activities are fun, but a parent or older sibling will need to assist. I strongly recommend the older person reading the role play before beginning the action to familiarize him/herself with the questions and answers required. Thick, glossy pages clean up with a damp cloth and endure rough handling. The large print makes it easy for small child and older adult to read. I recommend this Bible for the little girl's first Bible and suggest she receives it even before she can read. She will love the pictures and, with the mother's help, all the little activities included. Lucille P Robinson [...]

Disappointed...,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
I really thought this might have more interactive stories or at least a question and answer part. The stories are short but sometimes I don't feel like they are even written for a child. They use actual Bible verses which is great but the stories afterward to coorelate with the Bible are sometimes lacking. Would not recommend for 4 year old as books says, maybe 6-7 year old?

Disappointed, Disgusted,
By Manda "Mnda" (Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
Really disappointed to see such an awful gender divide in this series, where little girls can only be princesses and little boys can only be warriors. Little girls get to seek adoration and little boys get to seek honor, and somehow these are mutually exclusive? I will not be exposing my children to anything like this.

Sheila Walsh's God's Little Princess Devotional Bible,
This review is from: God's Little Princess Devotional Bible: Bible Storybook (Hardcover)
My daughter's face lit up with excitement the moment she saw the cover of Sheila Walsh's God's Little Princess Devotional Bible. The sparkling cover complete with twinkling "jewels" is pretty enough to catch any girl's eye.
Inside you will find Bible lessons, songs, activities, and real-life applications written especially fro your four to seven year old daughter. There are even beauty tips such as "Think of some ways your mom shows you her beautiful heart...ask God to work in your heart to make you beautiful on the inside, too." (p. 193) There are also skits hidden between the pages. The Bible also highlights God's princesses such as Sarai, Mary, Elizabeth, Ester, and Ruth. I'm not exactly sure who enjoyed reading this more, me or my daughter. The colorful borders kept her attention and the illustrations were kid-friendly and pertinent to the adjoining lessons. While this book was tremendously enjoyable for my daughter who is four, I think it is tailored more towards the six to nine age range. |
