5.0 out of 5 stars White Rabbit Cult: "...And the Gods Made Wars.", February 25, 2000
By
This review is from: ...And the Gods Made Wars. (Audio CD)
White Rabbit Cult: "...And the Gods Made Wars."

Unlike most commercial garbage you can find on the music market these days, this CD actually has a message, and a message that makes sense. White Rabbit Cult start the CD (track #1: "Invocation AC99") by paying homage to Jimi Hendrix's "...And the Gods Made Love." from the Electric Ladyland CD. The album deals with two basic concepts, and those are religion and war. In the news, the combination of the two has traditionally been viewed as something "bad", bringing about misery and devastation. However, in the "...And the Gods Made Wars." story we immediatiely learn that -- contrary to what we might learn from the media -- the "good guys" are not all that good, while the "bad guys" are not so evil either (track #2: "Collateral Damage"). As a matter of fact, as the CD draws to its end (track #8: "AnandaShiva Extention"), we are not really sure if there are any good or bad guys.

Just like in the great Bhagavat Gita, where the battlefield is used as a setting to learn the Ultimate Truth, the "...And the Gods Made Wars." ends with the message of enlightenment, while the concept of love permeats the entire CD (tracks #3: "Apocalypse Across the Sky", #4: "Heart Like a Hammer", #5 "AnandaShiva"). Love is generally confused for lust in the contemporary society, however when White Rabbit Cult say "love", they are not confused: they mean the Divine Love, the Love that conquers all.

In this age of confused values, this is a great CD to have.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHITE RABBIT CULT: Psychedelics for the new millenium, December 31, 2000
By
Wild Bill (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
Yeah, finally, a true-blue "alternative" band. Nowdays, many bands pass as alternative, even thought they are just another pop band unable to make a hit song. This is not the case with the White Rabbit Cult. Like I said, they are a true-blue alternative band, unafraid to experiment, test out new ideas, new sounds, and, what is even more important, they are a band with a message, which cannot be said for too many artists nowdays. They do not care whether their stuff is going to sell or not, they do not do things trying to win sympathy with the reviewers, they just do their thing and they do it well. I don't know who these people are, but their music is a welcome breath of fresh air, which I have been awaiting for quite some time. They are the true spirit of the revolution, and they bring back the element of danger in rock. Thanks to them, my faith in the future of rock is alive again. They are the Sex Pistols for the new millenium, the Sex Pistols with a psychedelic twist. Get their album "...And the Gods Made Wars." You will love it. Just say yes!
