5.0 out of 5 stars A most delightful family comedy!
I recently learned that my daughter and son-in-law have never seen this wonderful sequel, although they loved the original film. Therefore, I had to rectify this tragic lack by ordering a copy for them to share with their children. No family should be without it.Anyone who liked THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY will love this one as much or more, especially if you have children...

I recently learned that my daughter and son-in-law have never seen this wonderful sequel, although they loved the original film. Therefore, I had to rectify this tragic lack by ordering a copy for them to share with their children. No family should be without it.Anyone who liked THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY will love this one as much or more, especially if you have children. The two young children of our heroic bushman are thoroughly delightful as they are carried into the unknown, miles from their home. And their father's momentous encounters with the other characters as he frantically searches for his offspring are a joy to watch.Everything about this little gem of a comedy is fresh and creative. It is difficult to pick out one scene that is more interesting than the others. The animal characters make you wonder, "How on earth did they get them to do that?" The little badger that won't give up deserves a special award of some kind--what a ham! Then there is the monkey that keeps drinking the heroine's water before she can get to it. Even the cute little airplane seems to take on a life of its own. And when the bushman finally recovers his children, their tears of joy will reflect your own, whether they are from laughter or empathy with the reunited father and children. If you want to see an extremely well-conceived and well-crafted comedy which is a pure delight from beginning to end, I could not recommend any film more highly than THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY, Part 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars How come these cannot be found?, August 22, 2000
By
I do not think I can vouch for rhino's stomping out fires, but I've been through the Kalihari and I CAN speak for the baboons. They'd LIKE these movies. I did too, very much, and not out of simple nostalgia that I've been there. They are cute and funny and oddly enough NOT so improbable as they might seem. That South Africans would call an impish if not wicked thorn bush a 'wait-a-bit' bush is absolutely correct no matter how cute the person is who fumbles into one in her underwear. But sorry, that's the original movie. So- why isn't the original GODS MUST BE CRAZY available? Why is the sequel only on VHS, when DVD makes virtually anything better? And how come I never even heard there was a 3rd one, which I infer from other reviews is named THE GODS ARE GETTING CRAZIER? I copied the first two long ago, but on the basis of those first two I will buy the set, 3rd one unseen, the moment they are released on DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very funny sequel, November 1, 1999
The Gods Must Be Crazy II (1989) C-97 min. D: Jamie Uys. N!xau, Lena Farugia, Hans Strydom, Eiros, Nadies, Erick Bowen. Sequel to the hit box-office smash is just as funny, concerning the bushman's quest to find his children, who have been "kidnapped" by a pair of poachers. Meanwhile, two inept soldiers are out to make each other suffer through slapstick catastrophes and a duo of scientists find themselves lost in the desert. Farugia is hilarious as the anti-nature scientist, while Bowen is funny as well (as a Cuban soldier who loses his sense of direction every few minutes). RATING: 8 out of 10. Rated PG for partial nudity, slapstick violence, and strong language.

***Spoilers***

Oh my god, I just saw this movie, and it's got to be one of my favorites ever. Every scene and every aspect of this movie is great and delightful- its humor, the animals, the zany/sexy lawyer, the level-headed and skilled zoologist, and of course N!xau and his two sons, all trying to find each other. The depiction of the Bushmen's culture and skills was very sincere and expert. The Kalahari setting put you intimately in that environment and inspires me to one day make it to Africa- more so than nature shows that seem to always be directed in the same style (Microcosmos is one exception). The flight through the rainclouds and escarpments was other-worldly. The little brothers snatching fruit from the moving truck and playing in the tank of water was so adorable. Their tears of joy and smiles as they finally find each other brought me to tears. I liked N!xau's total control in creating that fire patch. Oh and the two soldiers sharing running duties cracked me up! And like another reviewer mentioned, the social and political commentary comes through from just being, not from forcing it on the viewer. The animals were so great. It really gives you an appreciation for the great things we have in this world- that great, veiny baobab tree, the personalities of the baboons, badger, and hyenas. Even the documentary-style narrator made sense. I just wish more people could see this, it is so funny and endearing.

5.0 out of 5 stars You've heard of laughing til you cry? That's this movie!, April 18, 2003

I missed "The Gods Must be Crazy," and only stumbled onto
Gods II. But it was one of the happiest stumbles of my life (and I'm now 77!). We've had this film 6 or 7 years, and I still crack up when I watch it. The director, as well as the actors, are top-grade. The low-key delivery of the dialogue no matter how drastic the crisis, the animals performing like pros (which they may be but it doesn't show), the touches of prattfall humor ( falling through the hole in the plane, leaping up tree trunks in a single bound)--all really tickle our sense(s) of humor. When we're not laughing out loud, we're smiling. And the only word for the two kids is marvelous! The thought of those two poachers drinking their wagonload of water after the two children have played in it--and probably done what all small children do when in swimming--is a real grin. This is not to say that there isn't an undercurrent of some serious concerns running through the film, but they're not obtrusive. This was made as a comedy, and the makers succeeded beautifully.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE FEW SEQUELS THAT IS AS FUNNY AS THE ORIGINAL, March 26, 1999
By A Customer
I originally rented this movie thinking, "This will be a dull sequel.." What a pleasant surprise! Just like the first, I was laughing myself into tears. And to think this movie is difficult to find. I really have to search to find it. Why can't more comedies be like this? I went through a world of emotions: laughter, sadness, joy. What more can you ask for in a movie? Every family should have a copy of this movie in their video library!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Gods Must Be Crazy - part II, February 24, 2000
WATCH THIS WITH YOUR PARENTS! I am buying this movie through Amazon.com. I watched it with my parents years ago, (they were in their late 60's), they laughed so hard while watching it - I almost peeed my pants. Anything that could make them laugh that hard is priceless to me. Now with a daughter of my own, I know she will love it, even if she is only 3 yrs old. Everyone should see & love this movie! Personally, it was much funnier than the 1st one. I tell everyone about this movie - It's sooooooooo cute!

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen. I saw it when I was a young girl and I've recently purchased it and no matter how many times I've seen it I still laugh. My family loves it..The movie has a refreshing and a unique approach to comedy. I love the antics that happens in this movie. This is a must-see. I'm in search of the first one.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Gods Must be Crazy, January 9, 2000

I'd really like to get hold of a copy of The Gods Must be Crazy as it is something rather unusual and refreshing. I also have seen The Gods Must be Crazy 2 but this is not nearly as good. I do not think either of them ever appeared in the UK, which is a shame, but we can play back American videos here as well as read/write PAL.

It is hard to decide which of these hilarious episodes is the funniest. Like all of the truly classic movies, they can be watched over and over again. They are true entertainment for any age. Both of them can be enjoyed by the entire family.
There is little doubt they would be among the best selling movies of all time if they had been made by mainstream hollywood. Blockbuster will be hard pressed to keep them on the shelves if they become available on DVD.
