5.0 out of 5 stars Scathing satire at its best!!!
This is the second time I have had the pleasure of reading GOD'S OTHER SON. While it is guaranteed to offend a number of readers, even its detractors would have to admit that it is one of the funniest books ever written. After reading the first 30 to 40 pages, I knew that Imus couldn't keep up the pace. I was wrong. His humor never took a break, and I finished reading the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Imus can do better
Don Imus is a brilliantly funny guy who rose to the level of his incompetence in trying to write a novel. The story rambles, flinging wildly between pure satire and earnest storytelling, as if it were two books cobbled together. Imus is a genius on the radio, but an elementary class in plot contruction would have helped enormously.

3.0 out of 5 stars Started out boring but got better, August 28, 1997

Boring at first, got funnier, then got worse as he was using God's name in vain so much. Could have been less of that and more of the funny stuff

4.0 out of 5 stars This was one of the funniest books I ever read!, July 28, 1997

This review is from: God's Other Son (Paperback)
I am a longtime fan of Imus, and I especially enjoy his type of humor. This book, which I just learned existed a couple of weeks ago, was truly a laugh a minute experience. Protagonist Billy Sol Hargus brings to mind another Billy Sol from Texas several years ago. His gig was to dupe others out of money also. But his escapades were not nearly as funny as the Reverend Dr. Billy Sol Hargus. This book will obviously offend the very sensitive religious left wing, but for the rest of the literary world, it brings nothing but laughter to the eyes of its readers. Everyone, (I think) would like to have a what was her name?- Stepmother Edna? Sure would save a lot of time wondering what life is all about. Aunt Stepmother Edna was a wonderful religious teacher for Billy Sol. He was a very lucky young man. Anyone with a warped sense of humor will revel in this excellently written book. It is a literary journey into a rich sense of humor that will tend to make many young men, and who knows, may be some y

After reading the first 30 to 40 pages, I knew that Imus couldn't keep up the pace. I was wrong. His humor never took a break, and I finished reading the book in two sessions. It is one of the very few books that actually made me laugh out loud until I had tears in my eyes. This is a must for anyone that has an appreciation for fine satire

3.0 out of 5 stars Imus' book help's me understand why he is 2nd to stern, October 10, 1998
By A Customer

Imus proves to one and all that even while he's at war with Howard Stern he can still ride Howard's wave to the best seller list. The re-release of this book during the explosion of Howard's book on the scene is just a little to suspicious.

Don does a great job on this book. It is very humorful & interesting. This is even better than the "Billy" on his radio show.

3.0 out of 5 stars An in-siders look into radio, power, and religion., September 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: God's Other Son (Paperback)
The liner notes said the book was 'insanely funny' Funny, I didn't go insane reading it.

I read the entire thing at one sitting before realizing it was a work of fiction.

Billy Sol stack-whacker is Imus from a religious per[spective] or per[version]. Take your pick.

Every time this guy preached the gospel something caught on fire.
