4.0 out of 5 stars Profane and funny
This book is definitely not for people who are easily offended. Imus's scathing commentary on evangelists is not for the faint of heart. Sexual mores and religous beliefs are all fair game in this outrageous look at "God's Other Son" Billy Sol Hargus and his trials and tribulations. This book will either make you laugh out loud or shake with anger depending on...

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine for beach reading! Don't take it seriously! I still love the I-Man!
If you love Don Imus, you'll love this novel. Don Imus is not a professional novelist and I think this book was created as a fluke. However, it can be vulgar and x-rated at times. I don't take it seriously.

Although the writing style bothers me most of all because it's all over the place, it takes a while to get the story into motion and to understand. Thank...

5.0 out of 5 stars Imus radio program come out on audio book, June 25, 1999

This review is from: God's Other Son (Audio Cassette)
When I got this audiobook I was prepared to listen to Don Imus just read the book to me, but I was pleasanly suprised. Imus uses things that make the bits on his radio program great in the audiobook. If you are a fan of the I-man and you are looking for a good time and a quick way to kill 2 hours I suggest this audiobook. CAN I GET AN AMEN?!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the funniest, warped and delightfully offensive books, June 3, 1998
This review is from: God's Other Son (Audio Cassette)
As a long-time listener of Mr. Imus, I was delighted to read his book, but I truly did not expect it to be great. However, Mr. Imus's eye for detail and style makes his characters come alive. They may be twisted and bizarre, but I felt as if I was right beside them. The dialog is razor sharp at times and the humor had me laughing so hard, I annoyed my neighbors! Mr. Imus's sense of humor is not for everyone and to some, he will be a bit too racy and offensive. For me, that was part of the charm of this book. I needed a wonderful, light read that left me sore from laughing.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Still Have A Side Ache!, November 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: God's Other Son (Hardcover)
Don Imus may be considered questionable in some of his radio show comments, but as an author with a hilarious flair for the unique, writes the outrageous satirical evolution of a young lad brought up in a questionably religious household to become a full-blown household name televangelist who truly believes in his heart and soul that he is indeed God's Other Son. This has got to be one of the funniest stories I've had the pleasure to read. I can't remember laughing so hard out loud reading a book. I still have a side ache!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fine for beach reading! Don't take it seriously! I still love the I-Man!, May 8, 2010
This review is from: God's Other Son (Hardcover)
If you love Don Imus, you'll love this novel. Don Imus is not a professional novelist and I think this book was created as a fluke. However, it can be vulgar and x-rated at times. I don't take it seriously.

Although the writing style bothers me most of all because it's all over the place, it takes a while to get the story into motion and to understand. Thank God, he's not a novelist because it's quite difficult.

I think the story of the novel itself is probably more entertaining than the story. Don Imus writes about God having another son who grew up in the Southwest. This is an adult novel maybe his fans and the guys will appreciate most of all. Maybe it's just too vulgar and profane for me. I still love the I-man but I didn't care for this book. I took this book as a light-hearted attempt. I don't think it was ever intended to get published anyway and it was just Imus writing away.

5.0 out of 5 stars god's other son... imus is audio's patron saint!, November 6, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: God's Other Son (Hardcover)
the audio version of this book is flat brilliant. the impact is equal to h.g.wells' "war of the worlds" in terms of delivery, and deadpan sincerity. this may be one of the best concept fiction recordings ever. truly amazing, and hillarious at every turn. step edna, my dominatrix from hell... billy sol, my saviour!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you don't think this book is funny, you must be dead!, November 4, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: God's Other Son (Hardcover)
This is Don Imus at his best! I had never laughed out loud while reading until I read this book. The characters and premise seem ridiculous at first, but you only need to watch one TV evangelist to know that Imus has captured the entire "industry" perfectly. I only hope this will not be Imus' only novel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scathing satire at its best!!!, July 21, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: God's Other Son (Hardcover)
This is the second time I have had the pleasure of reading GOD'S OTHER SON. While it is guaranteed to offend a number of readers, even its detractors would have to admit that it is one of the funniest books ever written. After reading the first 20 or 30 pages, I knew that Imus couldn't keep up the pace. I was wrong. His humor never took a break, and I completed the book in two sessions. It is one of the very few books that actually made me laugh out loud until I had tears in my eyes. This is a must for anyone who has an appreciation for fine satire
