Works or faith?, November 23, 2009
This review is from: Gods Plans for You (Paperback)
Faith and works are regular topics of curiosity and conversation but few have put together God's revelation on this topic in such a brief, readable format. I've never regretted any purchase of a book by Andrew Murray and have many.
Here's a few excerpts form his wonderful work:
"Let your light shine that we may see your good works, and glorify your Father ... " following the Son who said "My Father works until now, and I work" "The Father that dwells in Me, He does the work" and He subsequently "finished the work ..."
Some today still respond to His command "Son, go work in my vineyard ..." For the Lord has given "each man's work to him ..." (Mark 13:34) I'd even bet it's your "meat to ... finish His work." For how can we but echo Jesus example who said "I must work the works of Him that sent Me." Having run the race, may we say "I have glorified you ... I have finished the work which You have given Me to do." "For it is the same God that worketh all in all ..."
He promises "... He who believes on Me, the works that I do he shall do also, and greater works than these he shall do ..." Because, of course, ".. We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them."
Sometimes we need reminding "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." For in Christ Jesus nothing avails any thing except "faith which works by love" "... that you might walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful in every work ..." "So that, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not without fruit in the Lord."
"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that in everything ... you may abound to every good work;" "... according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effectual working of His power."
"For He has given some to be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry ..." "... that we may grow up into Him ... the whole body fitted together ... according to the effectual working ... of each part ..."
"In the same way also, I desire that women adorn themselves ...with good works, ... professing godliness" "... the wife of one husband ... having a reputation for good work."
"As for the rich in this present age ... they are to do good, to be rich in good works ..." "... be a vessel for honorable use ... holy ... ready for every good work." "... a workers who has no need to be ashamed ..." "For all scripture is given ... that the man of God may be perfect, furnished for every good work." ... Jesus Christ, ... gave himself ... to purify a people ... zealous for good works." "... ready for every good work."
"By the grace of God ... I labored (worked) more abundantly ... not I but the grace of God which was with me ..."
"... those who have believed in God ... devote themselves to good works ... to help in cases of urgent need and not be unfruitful." "Working together with Him ... for ... now is the day of salvation." "For we are God's co-workers ..."
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works ..." "Unto the church write ... I know thy works."
Please keep us in prayer and stay tuned as God honors your work, for "Faithful is He who called you, who also will do it."
He who works everything together ...
