Reading this book to or with your child is a great way for them to hide God's Word in their hearts.

An easy way to help young girls see God's promises and how they can rely on His love in their daily lives.

The promise verses in this book are selected from the best-selling International Children's Bible® to offer comfort and encouragement when a girl is feeling afraid, lonely, worried, angry, dissatisfied, discouraged, sad, rebellious, impatient, or sick . . . and when they need reassurance of God's protection, love, forgiveness, help . . . and that He listens when they pray. It's a great way for children to hide God's Word in their hearts.

Sample text: Monsters. Spiders. Being alone. Do any of these things make you feel afraid? When you start to feel fear, hold on tight to these words: God promises to take your fear away!

"So don't worry, because I am with you. Don't be afraid, because I am your God. I will make you strong and will help you. I will support you with my right hand that saves you." Isaiah 41:10

I loved this book. As a kindergarten teacher, I feel that it's right on traget for the 5 -12 year old range. I passed my copy to a former student and she loves it!! If you are looking for a great devotional book for a young girl, run to your local bookstore and buy one today!!

I received this book from Thomas Nelson's BookSneeze program, and don't worry, they didn't make me write a good review in exchange for the free book!

This children's book is a collection of bible verses separated by topic. The book is most likely appropriate for 8-11 year olds. Each section normally begins with a picture and then a question or phrase relating to the topic. It is then followed by a collection of bible verses.

When I chose this book I was expecting a good reference book for girls. One where if they had an issue they could look up a topic and find applicable biblical truths. However, I was surprised to find that I personally did not like this book. They got their verses from the International Children's Bible®. The wording for the verses was at times awkward and not clear. It was hard to understand the point they wanted the girls to see on each topic. I felt like the verses they used for certain topics were irrelevant. I would have liked the book a lot better if the verses were more relevant to the topics.

I received this book free from the publisher through the [...] <[...]> book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255 <[...]> : "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."

God's Promises for Girls by Jack Countryman & Amy Parker is a devotional aimed at young school-aged girls with lessons such as: Growing up is Hard. It offers help in the form of scripture for when you are sick, need patience, or when nothing is going right; for when you feel guilty, worried, angry or afraid; on becoming a better friend, daughter, sister; for serving others and sharing your faith. It's an adorable little book that greatly look forward to reading with my two girls. It seems to be aimed at young school-aged girls and Lord knows that's right around the corner, so perhaps look forward to isn't exactly the right choice of words, dread is more like, but that's no fault of the book. I especially love Rachelle Miller's illustrations, many of which are suitable for framing. I appreciate that the scripture is made clear for young ears, as it is taken from the Children's International Bible.

Excerpt:
Did you know you're God's princess?
Yes a daughter of the King!
So live a life of royalty,
And show the joy God's love can bring!

Trust in the LORD and do good;
Live in the land and enjoy it's safety.
Enjoy serving the LORD,
And he will give you the desires of your heart.

Trust Him and he will take care of you.
Then your goodness will shine like the sun.
Your fairness will shine like the noonday sun.
Psalm 37: 3-6

You are the children of the LORD your God...
He has chosen you from all the people on the earth to be his very own.
Deuteronomy 14: 1-2

It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. No your beauty should come from within you-- the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit.

What Mom Liked:

What's not to like?! The very first section is "God's Promises When You Live Like His Princess" - so you know this is going to be a hit in our house...

This makes both a lovely devotional-type book and a handy reference when you are looking for verses on a specific topic, such as dancing, praying, fear, sickness, and sharing your faith.

Each section has a cute lil' girl-pleasing illustration (very important here), a four-line introductory/summary rhyme, and a selection of verses on the topic.

I think this book would be appropriate for a large age-range: maybe 2 to 12 - making it a good investment.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book as an introduction to the treasures of Scripture for the little girl in your life.

What Mom Didn't Like:

It's not pink? I suppose that would be a positive for many of you... :) It is most definitely feminine, so we're okay even on that line...
