I just received this much-anticipated book, and overall, I am very disappointed with it. Though the men are indeed extremely rugged and handsome, the images are hardly racy or tantalizing; it's clear the men were very uncomfortable with their nudity as most images have the men with their jeans pulled partially down their backside, and any frontal images have the genitals hidden behind shadows or hand-held towels. Strangely, there are several images spread over both pages, but the second page is completely blackened (for effect). Overall, the images are staight out of a men's fitness magazine like Exercise for Men Only.

There are better books that portray the male form more vibrantly and sensually: the various Bondi books and the Dieux du Stade books - all which I highly recommend.

This is a very thick and overpriced book. If you were looking for full frontal nudity, spend you money some place else. The photography is rather dark. And it is most annoying, that each one of the photos has the models with some grease on their bodies. What is that about ? Don't waste your money.

Ironically, while this book does not feature full frontal nudity - and I am a fan of full frontal - I consider it to be highly superior to that "other" photobook featuring the French rugby/soccer? team, that did feature some full frontals. The atheletes featured here are almost uniformly more handsome, and with bodies more buff and defined. Another plus? The photos are all in glorious color, unlike that other book which was black and white.

Of course, the fact that not everything is shown is a drawback, especially considering the hefty price of the book. But I also think one should take into consideration that the athletes featured here are professional men, not models, men who are celebrities in their own field. It is a little unrealistic to expect Mr. Virgil to be have been able to get these men to disclose everything to the camera. Some of these guys are so beautiful that what is shown is more than enough to take ones breath away. The only reason I give the book 4 stars is that while I realize this would have been improbable, I still wish the pictures had revealed more.

So impressed was I by this book that I am considering buying Mr. Virgil's latest book, and again this is coming from someone who generally does not like to spend so much money on books of this genre that tease more than reveal. His photo's are that good.

For fans of the male physique (and who isn't?), Gods of Sport is a must-have. It's simply one of the most beautiful, high-quality photography books put out by this publisher to date.

The photography in this book is stunning. Artistic and elaborate, Mr. Virgil has framed each of his models in the perfect setting. Where other books like this might set up camera in any old locker room, the 'sets' seem to enhance each photo perfectly, combining with the gorgeous models to tell an intriguing and sensual narrative.

The book itself is extremely high quality. Where some other books in this vein are smaller, Gods of Sport is a true coffee table book, measuring 14" x 10" and weighing in at a hefty 224 pages. While a bit pricier than some of its counterparts, the length and girth of this offering make it worth a little more. It's over twice as long as most of the other offering by this publisher.

If you're a fan of the male physique, particularly in an athletic setting, this would be a necessary indulgence.

Pedro Virgil's Gods of Sport is bursting with beautiful full-page photographs of hot Australian rugby players. Each page is a stunning portrait worth lingering over.

GODS OF SPORT is a hefty, hefty coffee table (or bedside) book chock full of gorgeous, nude and semi-nude Australian rugby (football) players and is worth every penny of the discounted Amazon price. Aussie photographer Pedro Virgil has created a true collector's item here. The average player is about 23, built and stunning!

As the other reviewers state, not all of the players are fully nude (if you're looking for p*rn, you should prolly look elsewhere). Instead, GODS OF SPORT is an EROTIC and BEAUTIFUL collection -- a must-have for both female and male fans of the male body.
