This is one of the few biographies of John Owen. Toon has done excellent work considering that sparsity of the personal material on his subject. The author has surveyed the major areas of Owen's life and influence, but in my opinion, does not have a sufficient grasp of the nuances in Owen's theology and overstates what he views as areas of gradual development in his thought. The work is also dense in subject matter and slow reading. However, there is not much else to compete with this work as far as scholarly biographies go, so it is a must read for those taking a serious interest in John Owen.

This book was delivered quickly and was in better condition than expected for a book that has been out of print for over 30 years. I am more than satisfied with this transaction.
