5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I've ever read, December 13, 2006
This review is from: God's Troublemakers: How Women of Faith Are Changing the World (Hardcover)
This book is full of the wisdom gained from people who live in the grit of life while making their contribution to Humanity. Henderson writes with depth, wisdom, and clarity. This book should be read by women who want to have a deep insight into how they can fully be powerful in the world. This book should be read by people who want to enter into the world of making an effective difference.

I keep telling my wife how much I love this book and she tells me I've never spoken about a book in this way before. I've underlined so many pages that I can't lend it anyone so I've bought 6 as holiday gifts.

This is a book for moral, social entrepreneurs.

This review is from: God's Troublemakers: How Women of Faith Are Changing the World (Hardcover)
This is not a book I COULDN'T put down. In fact, it's a book that cries out to BE put down. It's NOT a page-turner; it's a thought-provoker. Katharine Henderson inspires a person to read, stop, think, consider, contemplate, and then start reading again. She writes about "women of faith" - and by that she means ALL faiths (not just Christian, but Jewish and Muslim as well - who have chosen lives of action, who have decided to find ways, however small, of "changing the world": of helping the poor, of defending the prisoner, of advocating for the powerless, of challenging wars, of educating the youth. I kept reflecting on how these women became moved to such actions, on how they have managed to make things happen, and on how they have found it possible to continue with their work. These women are visionaries, certainly, but they're also very practical. They don't just sit back and imagine how things could be; they go out and make things different. They attend meetings, work on committees, write letters, raise money, demonstrate, argue, speak, march, and struggle. Read it slowly. Take your time. Let these women's marvelous stories move you
