Just get it. It's that good.,
This review is from: Gods of Vermin (Limited Edition) (Audio CD)
I saw this album at the record store and I never heard of them or it before. I looked at the cover and thought oh is that Epica's singer. I'm not a fan of Epica so I was a little worried. The sticker said members from Epica and Kamelot and others. I LOVE Kamelot so I bought it. I'm always looking for NEW bands to listen to. WOW...this is a good album. It's a rollar coaster of emotions in the songs. Songs are complex to a point but not to the degree where it gets annoying and completely abstract. Catchy choruses in almost every song. You WILL pick them up fast and sing along. Semi-Heavy riffing along with some soothing melodies. Drum work is awesone. Keys?.....very good. Singer is supurb. He sings with a LOT of emotion. That's what I like to hear. I want to feel what you are saying. He's not just droning on like alot of others Prog-Metal bands. Like I always say "I get it you can sing and play your instrument but can you entertain me". God of Vermin is a GREAT song. Blind Man's Resolution is flawless. And that's to name a few. Just a GREAT solid album from start to finish. This is how you do it folks. NO filler songs here in my honest opinion. Nothing you haven't heard before but so what, I truly enjoyed this album. I listen to it every day since I got it. Can't wait for their second release.
Oh the extra song is worth the buy.

I originally purchased this album because I'm a huge Epica fan, but Simone only sings on a couple of tracks.
Although I buy a ton of CDs, I don't usually write reviews. This album deserves far higher than its current 3-star average, so thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I would have given it 4 1/2 stars if that were an option. The overall sound is somewhat similar to Kamelot's, as mentioned in other reviews, but the singer is more guttural and there are some sparingly used growling vocals as well. The singer reminds me a bit of Russell Allen from Symphony X, particularly on their later albums, moreso than Khan from Kamelot. The keyboard work is particularly good, lots of interesting things going on there. Very good guitar work, both electric and a little acoustic, although nothing really unusual on that front. The band is very tight with the rhythm guitar, bass, and drums providing a great backing for the lead guitar, vocal, and keyboard work. Songs are well written with very interesting transitions and breaks. And as mentioned previously many of the choruses are catchy, but not at all trite, you'll find yourself bopping your head and singing along after just a couple of listens. Overall, a very good metal album and worth a listen if you're a fan of bands like Kamelot and Symphony X.

I had high expectations for Sons of Seasons, and they were exceeded...,

In a genre that's unfortunately gained a reputation for stagnation, Sons of Seasons are anything but. Their debut album Gods of Vermin may be best described as a unique blend of symphonic metal with several progressive elements and the classical influences that have become characteristic of Oliver Palotai -- yet there's an incredibly powerful, dark aesthetic present throughout the entirety of the album that makes such labels useless. Each composition is something greater than the sum of its parts, and complex enough that you'll almost definitely discover something new every time you listen to them, yet far from overpowering.
All I can really say is that if you like thoughtful, emotive, ambient, captivating music, Gods of Vermin will be your Elysium. A few songs in and you'll know that you've stumbled upon something epic...
