I have always hoped there would be a book like this one....and finally here it is! This book captures the essence of Proverbs 31 and how we can define and apply this Proverb today. Proverbs 31 has been my goal as a wife, mother and Christian for years, but I have been confused in that past how I could apply this Proverb to my life today. This is the perfect book for your daughters also - it is written on there level of understanding also. It can be used for the young and old alike, plus it would make the perfect gift for a new Christian mom that is having a baby girl. The pictures are beautiful and inviting. Thank you Elizabeth George!

Written by best-selling author Elizabeth George, God's Wisdom for Little Girls has a lofty goal: To help children understand Proverbs 31 and how it applies to their life today. Each page of this book (charmingly illustrated by Judy Luenebrink) deals with one character trait; through pictures and rhyming text, it shows little girls how that trait might apply to their life. The last page of the book breaks down some of the bigger words used in the book (like "diligent" and "gracious"), saying what they mean, and where moms can find the corresponding text in the Bible. God's Wisdom for Little Girls says that "God's little girl is:" priceless, kind, eager, helpful, cheerful, busy, hearty (giving it our all), diligent, caring, prepared, creative, prayerful, artistic, confident, gracious, careful, thoughtful, and cherished.

What I Like: The concept; Proverbs 31, while an important passage to all women, isn't always easy for grown-ups to understand. But the author does a fine job breaking down each concept and applying it to modern life. (Moms may learn something, too!) These virtues are things we should try to instill in our daughters from an early age, and God's Wisdom for Little Girls really help mothers do that. The illustrations vary in color intensity (some are vivid, some are pastel) and are quite detailed. They depict little girls playing, working, and loving.

What I Dislike: These aren't dislikes so much as cautions. I think it's important for mothers to tell their daughters they may not be able to live up to all these virtues - especially at first. It's also important to stress that we can only be a Proverbs 31 woman (or girl) if we lean on the Lord. Initially, I also questioned some of the named virtues; for example, "artistic.

I was really unimpressed with this book. The illustrations are beautiful, but the poems don't really make a lot of sense (e.g. they don't explain what being helpful, cheerful or confident really mean). The poems are also short - just four lines. It reminds me of a book a grandma would give her granddaughter, that would subsequently sit on a shelf collecting dust. It lacks substance and re-readability.

I would have liked to see the poetry abandoned for more substance. I bought it hoping to use it to teach our 4 year old character qualities but this is definitely not a good resource for that. Instead I would recommend Crossroads of Character: Learning to make wise choices.

Treat your young girl to God's Wisdom from the book of Proverbs on the topic of womanly excellence. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous and delightful to the eyes of young girls and their mothers. I now stock this book in my bookstore.

It's clear that an old woman wrote it, and only old women would enjoy reading it. OR old fashioned...

"God's Little Girl is Hearty... Buckle your shoe, do you know this rhyme? Ready, Set, Go, it works every time. To give it your all in school, home and play. I need your strength dear lord, we pray.

What does that even mean??? The sentence structure is haphazard, there's no rhythm. I could tell my 4 year old went into lala land from cover to cover.

Beautiful. Elizabeth George and Judy Luenebrink did a wonderful job in the creation of this book. Both the poetry and the illustrations are absolutely great...truly a pleasure. Elizabeth did such a good job of tying together her poetry to the verses of scripture on each page. I just wish I had had a copy twenty years ago to read with my three daughters as they were growing up. Hopefully, I can read it with granddaughters some day. (Great gift for new mothers of daughters).
