5.0 out of 5 stars Living at GodSpeed May 31, 2012
Format:Paperback
Britt Merrick's new book GodSpeed is a great call to see "mission" in a new and clear way - without an "s". Our identity is that we are "called to God sent by God for the glory of God to meet the needs of the world - with God". Britt writes with great clarity and transparency as to our purpose and identity and calling, and includes many personal illustrations revealing some great truths. Highly recommend!

GODSPEED by Britt Merrick published by David C. Cook

The author begins the book by stating that what the church in America is missing is a right understanding of `mission'. He calls "living at Godspeed" is when we understand our mission, live as sent people of God and thus begin living the Jesus life to those around us.
He does a good job of establishing the biblical basis of us being a sent people, that we are called to join with Jesus on His mission. We are not bystanders but workers with God.
He says that, "Mission is the single reason why your life's purpose is different from most of the rest of the world." That for mission minded people the question is not `What should I do?' but `What is God doing?'
I feel that for many of us to be able to answer that question we must first wait in prayer until we can hear from God and then be able to see what He is doing.
The author also talks about the need to understand that the goal of the mission or the gospel is not to get people to come to our church service. We must understand that the church is `Gods express instrument for ministry and mission,' and if we realize our identity as the church, and begin to live out that identity that we would `shake the world'.
He makes this profound statement that would be deeply unsettling for many Christians, "Because you and I were sent into the world, it follows logic that our most meaningful and fruitful Christian experiences should take place outside the church building." Yet it seems that we spend so much of our resources and energy on the building.

The author gives these statistics: "of the 52 parables Jesus told, forty-five of them took place in the market context. Of the 132 public appearances Jesus made, 122 of them occurred in the marketplace....

5.0 out of 5 stars Something about Britt. December 11, 2012

I often struggle with many pastors in finding them believable. Britt makes we want to not only be a better man, husband, and father, but has inspired me to long for a deeper more sincere relationship with Jesus.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spiritual Speedometer November 5, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The title of this book is intriguing. Together with the front cover, it suggests three things. Firstly, it paints an extreme sense of urgency. Secondly, it shows us that it needs to be done in God's speed, rather than man's rush. Thirdly, it leads ultimately to a destination. The subtitle suggests a fourth thing: Making Christ's mission our own. These sets the tone for the entire book.

Pastor Britt Merrick begins by asking readers to reflect about what is missing in the life of American churches. Many people have criticized churches either as hypocrites, as homophobic, as judgmental people. Such criticisms are understandable as some in the American church has embarked upon a pattern that has replaced grace with condemnation, relationships with rules, and truth with judgment. In the process, Merrick is convinced that the Church at large has lost sight of the person of Christ. This leads them to lose sight of the missio Christi: The mission of Christ. The premise of the book is as follows:

We need a right understanding of what mission is all about, to live something bigger than ourselves, or our churches, and to grasp a Christianity that will not only change us, but through Christ in us, the world will be changed.

I am fascinated by how Britt Merrick is able to be so creative in his presentation of the gospel, of God's mission through the Triune Godhead. The stories are plentiful. The passions are visible. Most of all, the simple point of God's mission is laid bare for all to see. I like the way Merrick is able to present theological truths of the Trinity, the Kingdom, the Mission of God is such a clear framework.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book. Well written on all accounts. July 30, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was off the charts.
It was well written, the topics and organization of the content was well put together - and It was hard to put down.

I am a full time missionary & traveling musician, and found this to be right on topic with things I deal with daily inside the church and out.
Upon finishing the book, I tweeted Britt Merrick about it, which he then retweeted. The Publisher also interacted with me on twitter concerning the book when I would reference it. These small involvement's with the books creators give you the feeling that they are within reach of those who are reading their materials.

Buy this book if you are involved in church leadership, a missionary, or in the ministry in any way. Then do what it details. It is a valuable resource.
