David Ware is Amazing!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Godspelized (Audio CD)
I first heard David Ware live a few weeks ago and since then I've sought out recordings by him. I haven't yet found anything that matched the intensity, lyricism and emotional impact of the live performance by Godspellized comes close. Both versions of the title track are amazing for the power of Ware's playing and the variety of sounds he extracts from his sax. The band is quite good but Shipp has really improved and you really should try to catch these guys live.

The greatest since Coltrane and Ayler,
By
This review is from: Godspelized (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest records of free jazz and is a direct successor to the important records of Coltrane and Ayler. The two huge towering versions of the title track alone are worth having the CD. Unlike on his other CDs all the material is composed by Ware (only "The Stargazers" is by Sun Ra, another source of Ware), which makes the CD so outstanding. His musicians are perfect as always, the female drummer hits hard with lots of feeling and innovation. Get yourself a copy of this CD as long as it is available.
