Another raving mad album from Genesis and the gang. If you don't know, this group was formed out of the ashes of Throbbing Gristle, one of the premier noise terrorist groups of the last twenty years. Bands like Ministry and Nine Inch Nails sing their praises, and more than a few other groups ripped them off. This is much poppier than Gristle, although quite crazy. Where else can you hear an eight minute long song about Roman Polanski that drones on with almost no change? And where else would that song be a giddy highlight? Some songs are as pleasant and poppy as you could imagine ("Godstar" sounds more like the Beach Boys than Ministry) and some are totally loony (one track features Jim Jones and Charlie Manson's lunatic rants overlapping each other AND THAT'S IT!). If you have an interest in the history of industrial music, or you are a very adventurous Beach Boys fan, than this album is for you.

mastered from vinyl ... got any better ideas?, January 30, 2003

Not the best remastering job in the world, but considering the master tapes are in the hands of Scotland Yard, this is probably the best digital option at the moment. Majikal tekno pop can get you busted? Good luck, Gen ole boy.

Haphazard But Brilliant, Vol. 2, March 4, 2009
This review is from: Godstar: Singles 2 (Audio CD)
Where one reviewer of Volume One wrote that this is good for someone who is new to PTV, I have to add that it's good for someone who already has been into the band for some time. If you already own these songs, more than likely they're on vinyl (unless you've been illegally downloading them... in which case Shame On You!), so the convenience of having these (mostly) rare tracks on a more portable medium is very nice. I like this one a little better, but odds are if you're going to get one you're going to want to get the other. The slow version of Roman P (Sordide Sentimental Version) is the closest thing to a studio version of the stunning Slow Roman that PTV has been doing live for the past couple of years. As far as I know, this is the only studio version of Unclean available on CD. Most of the tracks here are from their Hyperdelic phase, with a few tracks from when they were just beginning their acid house phase. With both singles collections, there is a little overlap with Godstar: Thee Director's Cut, but who cares. Get Thee Director's Cut for the listening experience, then get the singles collections to fill in the gaps.
