3.0 out of 5 stars Definitly not the best Godzilla collection, August 10, 2009
This review is from: Godzilla DVD Collection 3-Pack (Godzilla (1998) / Godzilla vs. Hedorah / Godzilla vs. Gigan) (DVD)
I bought this collection when I was much youner (and much stupider). I didn't know that much about godzilla movies yet, and I figured this was a good place to start. Although I already owned the original godzilla (1954) I considered this the start of my godzilla collection. Boy what a mistake.
First of all, Godzilla (1998) looked really cool to me so my basic intent was to buy this. Godzilla vs. Hedorah/ Godzilla vs. Gigan were just bonuses. After rewatching Godzilla (1998) I realized just how terrible it really was, and how heartless it was. It completely lacked the connection you feel with the suitmation, better known as: 'the guy in a suit' godzilla. The cgi feels very detached and characterless. This was the worst part of the colection.
Godzilla vs. Hedorah takes a step back to the showa series of godzilla movies (You can see my Godzilla vs. Hedorah review by looking at the individual disc available). Godzilla vs. Gigan is pretty much the best of the three movies. It too is from the showa series, and features a cyborg that basically appears from space called Gigan. It has huge claw arms and a chainsaw on its stomach. That's right; a chainsaw on its stomach. Its allie is the infamous three headed flying hydra called King Ghidora. The two come to earth, having been summoned by aliens, and fight Godzilla. But he isn't alone. His friend Anguirus, a spiky beast that resembles an ankylosaurus, assists him. The four do battle, and it ends pretty much like every godzilla movie. The action sequences have their moments, the dubbing is average, and the characters aren't overly annoying. All in all, not a bad giant monster movie.
So there you have it. If you are an absolute fan of godzilla, I suggest you buy this just for the box (as mentioned above). If you are looking to buy some godzilla titles, I don't recomend Godzilla 1998, but Gigan and Hedorah I do. And if you aren't interested in purchasing individual discs, I definitly recomend The godzilla 7 movie pack or Godzilla collection, both of which are available on amazon. Another thing I must add is when I got this, it was much cheaper. $ 20.99 to be exact. For whatever reason, the price is up, yet another reason why I don't recomend this.

This review is from: Godzilla DVD Collection 3-Pack (Godzilla (1998) / Godzilla vs. Hedorah / Godzilla vs. Gigan) (DVD)
this set would be great if only they released it as the three new dvds coming out. but instead what you get is two good dvds and one bad dvd that you may even already own. if they had released this as a set of all three of the new dvds i probably would have gotten it but its not so i am not going to buy this. if you want these three movies than buy the five disc set with these three the other new dvd and a new godzilla 2000 special edition with the japanese version included. although that should just be a four disc set, but i wont get into that here. don't buy this unless you are a insane fan and must buy all three dvd sets just for the boxes.
