4.0 out of 5 stars A Great & Fun Game!
As of now alot of critics are really hating on this game, but if you're a Godzilla fan do not believe them. Someone looking for spot on controls and a non-button mashing fighting game should probably look elsewhere. Being a Godzilla fan for over 25 yrs. I can honestly say the monsters all behave and have their signature growls as if I was watching one of the Godzilla...

3.0 out of 5 stars Godzilla - Fun for Fans of the "'zilla" genre
I recently purchased this game, because I grew up watching the 'zilla films on Saturday late morning "monster theater". The rubbery suited creatures had become a part of my imagination for some time, so to acutally be able to play one was indeed a thrill. I also own the game "War of the Monsters", which was purchased for the same "nostalgic" reasons. I will have to say...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great & Fun Game!, November 12, 2004

This review is from: Godzilla: Save the Earth (Video Game)
As of now alot of critics are really hating on this game, but if you're a Godzilla fan do not believe them. Someone looking for spot on controls and a non-button mashing fighting game should probably look elsewhere. Being a Godzilla fan for over 25 yrs. I can honestly say the monsters all behave and have their signature growls as if I was watching one of the Godzilla movies. Graphics are real good on the ps-2 and the monsters all look better then the DAMM from the gamecube and x-box. Environments are quite large and the selection of monsters is outstanding. Lots of modes to unlock and this makes the replay value very high, considering the fact that if you're a big G-fan then you will want to go through them all w/all the monsters to unleash all their different attacks.

But the game is not perfect, by any means. Some of the negatives would be the fact that on some of the modes and in Action mode you have to also control the camera when firing your beam. I am all about playing games that are difficult, but Atari makes this part FRUSTRATING!! It is kind of annoying. When going through Action mode if you quit at any point the only part that is saved is any points you have accumulated (which goes towards buying monsters, arenas etc..). Therefore if you were on the 3rd. level forget about continuing from that point the next time you turn on the ps-2. You have to begin at the very beginning of Action mode. I forgive the modes where you have to control the camera-practice makes perfect, but this part, the developers really blew it. One of the worst things a programmer could do to a true gamer. Another downside is the music-it is pretty bland. When you finish action mode the Godzilla march is played, big deal. It would sound so much better if it was played during a match, as well as all the other anthems from the Godzilla movies. The story for action mode was rushed and alot of it was cut before the game was released. This creates a story that really makes no sense, but considering that alot of the big G-movies had plots that either made little sense or were pointless, then this kinda makes the action mode feel cheesy-but in a good way. I wish you could play as Biollante and Hedorah, w/like 18 monsters to choose from this is just a personal gripe. But we are talking about a game that is based on movies where men in rubber suits beat the hell out of eachother, so the monsters do not move like soul caliber characters. This makes you feel like you really are controlling a 300 ft. tall monster-excellent!

So all in all this game is a lot of fun and I felt like I was in an actual Godzilla movie. If you like button mashing and enjoy the Godzilla movies-trust me you will love this game. Aside from the above flaws Atari really did justice to Godzilla. An incredibly fun game!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just like the classic movies, May 8, 2005

Godzilla rocks, plain and simple; and this game proves it.

You will get the feeling that you're watching one of the old '60s Godzilla movies when playing this game. The only difference is, you're the star.

For the most part, the play mechanics are very simple-- (1) pick something up and throw it at the monster (including other monsters! What other game has this in it?), (2) attack with monster-specific weapons (Godzilla's atomic breath, Ghidorah's lightning, etc), or let the army kick his butt (you have to get the enemy to do damage to the city first).

Some of the minigames are very good. I personally use the city destruction for anger management (you have 5 minutes to destroy at least 70% of the city-- NOT as easy as you'd think). There's also a version of basketball, using radioactive boulders; a game where you attack the Japanese Navy; and the hardest minigame of all-- keeping a fleet of flying saucers away from the Tokyo Tower.

Most of the monsters are easy to control; I personally love using King Ghidorah. The hardest one is without a doubt Moguera 2, a giandt robot dinosaur that shoots missiles and lasers. Moguera keeps running out of missiles and energy very fast, so you have to destroy more buildings to reload-- which, as I said, attracts the army.

One of the best features is being able to buy new cities and backdrops for your matches, as you win and get more points. I love the boxing ring-- sure, there's nothing to destroy, but so what?

This is a wonderful, violent, bloodless game for new and old Godzilla fans.

Highly recommended.

I have been playing this game for a week now, and I am still smiling! The graphics and sounds are incredible. The cast of characters is a kaiju dream team. My son and I have unlocked so many, but there are still more waiting to be discovered. You can fight head-to-head or alone. Toyko, Monster Island, and in other settings are well rendered and the "powers" that each character may use are true to their film counterparts. This is one of the greatest Playstation 2 games that I have ever played! My son is 10 and, as I play, I feel as if I am 10 again. This is a must have for any kaiju fan, or anyone who wants to have a great time.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wrote a review a year ago..., June 29, 2005
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Godzilla: Save the Earth (Video Game)
I wrote a review a year ago when my only systems where Gamecube and Playstation 1. I was deeply disappointed in the fact that there was no Gamecube version of GSTE. However, to my surprise, my parents bought a PS2 for me and my brother on Christmas. And, my parents being so smart and knowing me so well, bought me Godzilla. It's the best fighting game in the world (Tying of course with Tekken 5). There are many more characters, places, and now there are events like monster bowling and destroy the city. Adding to the excitement is a brand new story featuring the vortak and their extremely hot queen, Vortica. They're goal is to obtain G-Cells in order to create a super monster for thier universal conquest. In order to get the G-cells, they've taken control of the monsters on monster island to retrieve them. But (gasp) one of the monsters has avoided mind control, and has taken off to fight the monsters. YAY! Lucky humans. The fate of the universe is in your hands! Anyway, it's a great game and if you know what's good for you, get it. thanks for reading.

When I got Godzilla: Destroy all monsters, I didn't know what to expect. I was disapointed. However, this second game is much better. You get many more monsters, instead of earning them, you can buy them! This feature is very nice because you can buy the most powerful monster(Space-Godzilla) first if you want! Another nice feature is the challange mode. In action mode, you do 1 every 3 or 4 battles. It can be to save a sky-scraper from alien attack, or swimming under water to fight a submarian! You can also play bowling or basketball! This game has a lot more sweet features,so many I can't say them all! This game took me on one heck of a ride, probobly you to, so, to take the trip, play Godzilla: Save the Earth!

A Kid's Review

This review is from: Godzilla: Save the Earth (Video Game)
"Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Mele" is one of my favorite games of all time with it's graphics, characters, and more. So when I heard about a sequel(thanks to Tohokingdom.com), I started smiling like a clown! There are more playable characters(and Kiryu is coming to the american version, yes!), more modes, better graphics, and kaiju charts(to see how good your character is)! I can't wait for the game. The only reason I put four in overall is because one, it's not out yet so I haven't played it and two, it's not on Gamecube(which is, in my opinion, the best fighting game system).
