Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Young Sam spends a day with his trucker Dad in this entertaining photo-essay. Ages 4-8.
Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 2-- Sam, who's about six, accompanies his trucker dad as he picks up and delivers fish from one New England point to another. Clear and usually unposed-looking color photographs show Dad and Sam checking the motor from underneath, hitching up the "reefer," cranking up the dolly wheels, or enjoying a diner break. Trucking terms such as CB "handles," truckers' nicknames of "gear jammers," "white line fever," a log, and a smokey are explained in context. The well-designed and spacious layout allows readers to talk about what's going on or what is pictured as exposition and dialogue don't try to tell them all. Readers a little past David Lyon's poetic The Biggest Truck (Lothrop, 1988) or Joe Mathieu's Big Joe's Trailer Truck (Random, 1974), will happily drive this book home. --Susan Hepler, Arlington Public Library, Va.
