5.0 out of 5 stars Texas and Gene, January 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Goin Back to Texas (Audio CD)
Gene Autry was born in Tioga, Texas on Sept 29, 1907.
When this list of songs was compiled, I am sure that it made a fitting tribute to the man that was born there. There are songs on the CD like "Lone Star Moon", "Beautiful Texas" and "Sleepy Rio Grande" that have not been heard on record in years. These songs have been remastered and sound great!! If you are an Autry fan there are songs on this CD that you will want!! A wonderful tribute to Gene Autry, America Favorite Singing Cowboy and from all accounts his fame was world wide!Check Him Out!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Let's all go back to Texas with Gene", March 16, 2003
This review is from: Goin Back to Texas (Audio CD)
When you heard "America's Favorite Singing Cowboy", you got your moneys worth. Gene Autry had the mellowest voice and warmest sound, always a big smile when he sang. Gene recorded much of his best work between the 1930s and 1940s ~ the "25 Texas Classics" run the gamut of musical styles. Covering a range of tunes from "GOIN'S BACK TO TEXAS", "TEXAS SANDMAN", "LONE STAR MOON", "BEAUTIFUL TEXAS" as duet with Jimmy Long from 1934, "TEXANS NEVER CRY" and "DOWN TEXAS WAY" take us back to the days of Republic Studios and Columbia Pictures where Gene rode the Texas range with his horse Champion. Tunes range from classic cowboy to popular vocal harmonies. Gene's near perfect voice does the rest with his charm and winning ways.

Total Time: 47:48 on 25 Tracks ~ Varese Records 302-066-272-2 ~ (10/30/2001)

5.0 out of 5 stars Goin' Back To Texas, October 13, 2009

This review is from: Goin Back to Texas (Audio CD)
I listen to his music everyday and watch his shows everyday. His voice is wonderful. I had rather listen to him than anyone I know. He was my hero as a little girl and still is that hero. If he were here today with the kindness and goodness he showed to others then, maybe our world would not be in the shape it is in today.
I love the sound of his voice when he started out and now that the songs have been digitally redone, they don't sound like the old Gene Autry. Never the less, this is a great CD as usual.
