4.0 out of 5 stars "FIND ME A GIRL" is definately worth the purchase price!!
After going through some sort of Jackson Fever, I bought this disc and other Jacksons and Jackson Five albums. After listening to this cd a couple of times, I noticed that a lot of the songs were catchy and not one was really bad or unlistenable... which is a good thing. The bad thing is that some of the lyrical content seems to be lacking inspiration and it certainly...

3.0 out of 5 stars Goin' Backwards, July 18, 2001
This review is from: Goin Places (Audio CD)
Goin' Places was released less than a year after The Jacksons' self-titled album and despite the reteaming with Gamble & Huff, the album is a step back for the band. The album is not bad per se, but after leaving Motown for more creative control, the band still found themselves under the thumb of a powerful production team. The experiment of recording a famous Motown act in the Philly Soul sound was an astounding success on their first album together, but Goin' Places sounds like a recycled version of that album. There are some quality songs like "The Music's Takin' Over", "Man Of War" and "Heaven Knows I Love You Girl" but the balance of the album sounds like outtakes. Goin' Places was a major flop on the charts, producing no hit singles and not even denting the Top 40. Despite the criticism, the album is worth a listen if you like The Jacksons and the work of Gamble & Huff.

After going through some sort of Jackson Fever, I bought this disc and other Jacksons and Jackson Five albums. After listening to this cd a couple of times, I noticed that a lot of the songs were catchy and not one was really bad or unlistenable... which is a good thing. The bad thing is that some of the lyrical content seems to be lacking inspiration and it certainly doesn't break any new ground (I'm glad I don't have to blame them for this).

Anyway, despite those things, this disc has several good R&B tunes, my favorite being "Find Me A Girl," obviously. I love this song so much... Michael layed some very smooth and soulful vocals on us in this one. For me, this track alone was well worth the purchase price of the whole cd. Other mentionable tracks are "Even Though You're Gone," "Heaven Knows I Love You, Girl," "Man of War," and "Different Kind of Lady."

If you like the Jacksons or you like to listen to Michael's vocal performances, then this album won't dissappoint, but if you're looking for substance or growth, you better look somewhere else... maybe "Triumph."

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Start, June 8, 2002
This review is from: Goin Places (Audio CD)
If you are a Jackson fan, then you should know that one of the biggest reasons the Jackson 5 left Motown was because of lack of independence. They weren't permitted to write nor produce any tracks. To show what they were made of, in 1975 the Jacksons transferred to Epic records. Their first album did not do too well but hey, it was a start with one hit. Their second, Goin Places, really started paving the road to stardom on a new label. If you are willing to add this legendary piece to your Jackson collection, I would recommend you to listen to the Jacksons' song "Different Kind of Lady". Although the song was not commercially released as a single, it was played in clubs and discos all across the nation. I guarantee you would not be sorry with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff!!, November 14, 2009
This review is from: Goin Places (Audio CD)
This is a really good album (I liked the ballads best).

Here's how I ranked each song:

#1) Find me a Girl = best track on the album; (MJ's voice...soooo sexy...I felt like he was SANGING to me and me alone!! Jermaine is killin it on bass, Jackie's falsetto is on point)

#2) Even Though You're Gone (MJ's voice is just too beautiful...so soothing...just a beautiful song all around)

3.) Man of War (I think it's Marlon who sings before Mike, and he sounds lovely; I love the lyrics and all the brothers sound great together on this track)

4.) Music's Takin' Over (MJ is GETTIN IT yet again...I love the lyrics)

5.) Different Kind of Lady (Another great dance jam where the brothers sound great)

6.) Goin Places (My feel good jam...Jermaine was gettin it on bass again)

7.) Jump for Joy (Epitome of feel good music)

8.) Do What You Wanna (Another feel good jam)

9.) Heaven knows I Love You Girl (Again, MJ's voice is soothing and sexy, but the lyrics are a bit too simple, and whoever does that spoken part just sounds cheesy)

I absolutely LOVE MJ's voice on this entire album...he was just singing his heart out throughout!!! You wont be disappointed :-)

The seconnd disc is where the Jacksons true calling is showing. They are pure pop craftsmen. Gamble and Huff are back but this will be ther last disc as executive producers as the jacksons discover after the disc is finished how truly talented and comfortable they are in their own skin! But Gamble and Huff go out with a bang! The disc is a precusor to Destiny and it has the same level of energy and pulsing stattaco beats that Michael will become famous for! This is not just for jackson fans but anyone who want s to hear solid writing and production that is so tight the disc has rope burn! The first song "Music Takin' Over", with it's guitar riffs and stop and tutter beat is pure dance floor throwdown! Every song is very catchy and will have you humming them for days. Rather it be shout out call to "Jump For Joy" or the harmony and soul of "Different Kind Of Lady". The slow jams are done to an ease and naturalness that makes hearing "Find Me A girl" a classic! One of the best discs from on of the best "box set's" ever made!

Adoro este cd. Es uno de mis favoritos. Las canciones son buenísimas y dos de ellas están escritas por ellos ("Different kind of lady" and "Do waht you wanna") Si te gustan los Jacksons este disco es más que IMPRESCINDIBLE.

Dieses Album gefällt mir sehr gut und in Deutschland bei amazon in der "the jacksons - original album classics" - Box zu bekommen. Sehr schöne Lieder mit Michael, die für mich zu den besten Alben der Jacksons gehören.
