This was the first book I ever published. The art and text are simple, but effective in explaining to a child about the deployment process. The story was written for Navy families, thus the picture of a ship heading out on deployment.

More About the Author
James published his latest book "What Will I Play, While You Are Away?" in April 2010. Through his love of writing and military background he addresses a variety of life issues of being an absent parent. James' literary aspiration is to provide a nurturing hand to these families in need through his story lines. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and he holds an advanced degree in Business Administration. James is married with a son and a daughter.

This book is great for helping young children get through their Navy parent's deployment. It is geared toward Navy dads working in the surface fleet, but others can benefit from it too.

This is the first book I have EVER returned. I had hoped, despite the cover, that this book would be applicable to children with parents in any branch of the military. It is NOT. It's very strictly Navy oriented, with dad getting on a ship and working on a ship. Also, the book is very poor quality for the price and the pictures are poorly done computer graphics. Skip this and go for another book on the subject!

I bought this book for my four year old, and frankly, the language is more juvenile than she is ("While my dad is gone, Mom will take me to the park." And as bad as the writing is, the graphics are worse! It looks like a kid might've done it using their home graphics program, which is great if it were my kid, but not so much when it's a book I'm buying. It's printed on cheap paper, and my copy was damaged in transit, too.
I appreciate that these folks tried, I really do, but if I'd had any idea that this book was this bad, I never would've spent the money.
