5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a true roots rock veteran gets his chance ..., November 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Going Back Home (Audio CD)
This is a long overdue release from one of the most talented and often overlooked artists in the roots rock world. Russell who has been playing locally and touring internationally for over 15 years has finally put a package of wonderful music together for the world to hear. Altough going through many musicians in the last dozen years, he has a great line up on his debut cd. Russells angelic vocals and his considerable talents on the upright bass are complemented by his bands enthusiasm and expertise. A must own for any music fan!

Ive listened to Russell Scott for over 20 years and he has just gotten better with age. Anyone who hasn't heard them needs to listen to them. They have a sound all of their own.

5.0 out of 5 stars True Talent, July 26, 2004

I have just had the opportunity to work with Russell Scott at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, where he performed in the musical 'Idols of the King' by Ronnie Claire Edwards and Allen Crowe. It was my first time meeting Russell, and it was a pleasure working with someone as talented and fun to be around as he is.
Though I have not heard all of the tracks on this CD, I can tell you that Russell is truly one of a kind, and definitely worth a listen. He has an awesome voice and can PLAY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet!, May 2, 2004
This review is from: Going Back Home (Audio CD)
"Russell Scott and His Red Hots" is the only name possible for this band, 'cause they are SMOKING. Impressive musicianship and a lot of fun. These guys know what they are doing. Try this test: play the cd and see how long you can listen without having to jump up and start dancing. Tasty!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic CD from a versatile group, September 11, 2003

This record is fantastic. But I think to really appreciate how good Russell Scott and the Red Hots are, you need to see them live. They used to play every night of the week in SoCal, but now its once or twice weekly in LA and at the Doll Hut in Anaheim and annually at the Hootenanny. Gene Jaramillo is on guitar on most tracks of this album. Gene provides harmonies to many of the tracks that add to the brilliance of their arrangement. The first track is written (or co-written) with Eddie Nichols, the lead singer of Royal Crown Revue and friend of Russell. It is sort of a cross between rockabilly, R&B and doo-wop, a fast track with lots of energy.

Next in Line is one of my favorites. Of all the tracks, I would say that Rock you through the Roof and Tie Stands Still are classic rockabilly sounding, while the others range from rhythm and blues, jump, and even reggae-sounding. This is one of my favorite bands: I've seen them live millions of time, and they are absolute sweethearts!
