One of the funniest movies EVER by ANYONE ! NOT ON DVD ???,

I dare anyone to keep a straight face throughout this movie! As one who has seen all of John's work, I was flabbergasted to find this film at, or near the bottom of his film's popularity list. I can only attribute this awsome oversight to the fact that it hasn't been released on DVD. Why? Perhaps the 1984 release date? Or could it be a conspiracy by some "Anti-Candy-ite"? Who knows. I am one who seldom, if ever, cares to see a film more than once, regardless of how great it might be, but "Going Berserk" changed all that. This non-stop roller coaster ride thru the most bizzare mis-adventure ever to befall human kind, is one I can't get enough of! I daresay that if ya can't get it on DVD, Buy the VHS, and use that as an excuse to buy a DVD recorder as well! TheDoc

This early John Candy masterpiece is two hours of solid laughter. Ignore the silly plot. The main character (Candy) just goes from one improbable situation to a more improbable one. And they're well-written: You can't really predict what will happen (at least, not the first viewing...). If you like SNL, then this is the equivalent of two hours of SNL-like skits. You just keep laughing. John Candy is magnificent.

Hilarious! Stellar Cast & One of Candy's Best!,

Although somewhat dated, this is a hilarious film and one of John Candy's best. It is nonstop, madcap humor and slapstick with some funny sexual situations thrown in for good measure. Who can forget the twisted "Father Knows Best" sequences shown to brainwash John Candy's character against his father-in-law Ed Reese? Another memorable and hilarious character is Mohammed Jerome Willy, outlaw, who meets a rather unusual but stimulating demise.
Featuring a stellar cast, this is one movie you'll enjoy watching over and over again. If you are lucky enough, also record it on TV--there was a different version made for television (cleaned up, of course), but the TV version features different scenes from the theatrical release.

What a movie!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Going Berserk [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The movie going berserk is your basic 80's film. But it was never well known, or very popular. In my opinion, it was one of John Candy's best films next to uncle buck and planes, trains and automobiles. I especially like the part when he's trying to call his best friend Chick, while still being handcuffed to the dude who set fire to his family. I'm sure you will find it funny too. So if you happen to come across it in a video store somewhere, rentit, and watch it, you will laugh your head off, it's your perfect slapstick movie!

Always loved this movie and can't believe it's not on DVD,
This review is from: Going Berserk [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I haven't seen this in over 20 years and was thrilled to stumble across a VHS copy of it. Candy and Levy really shine with Flaherty playing a solid Second City back-up. Really funny stuff, despite being dated. Just good old fashioned silly and fun. Sad to have lost Candy so young. He was an all time great. Any John Candy fan should own this film!!!

Candy's Low Brow Classic,

John Candy plays a limo driver who wants to marry a senator's daughter. On top of that a cult tries to control his mind to finish the senator's career for good. It's a funny film that can stand repeated viewings. It's one of those movies that are still funny after almost twenty years. It's unfortunate Candy left us so soon. He had a lot of good movies left in him.

Occasionally hilarious mild spoof with three top SCTV stars. Candy is a naive, mixed up limousine driver, in business with Falherty; both are old time friends with a Z-movie Director Eugene Levy, who extorts a photography gig from candy's future Father-In-Law, a Congressman with a view to the Presidency.
The plot is funny, with semi-successful but entertaining spoofs of Father Knows Best, Leave It To Beaver, MTV, and just about everything else for the Baby Boomers. Candy and Flaherty play it up like an '80s Abbott and Costello, Joe's character is even caklled "Chic", a familiar name that Abbott used in (as I recall) A & C MEET FRANKENSTEIN. The movie itself is something of a spoof of The Manchurian Candidate - the angle here is that Candy is so confused that hypnosis (from a Cultist group intent on removing the Congressman) just won't take. Do not want to play "spoiler", so check out this DVD if you loved SCTV. Some surprising, depressing, racial content, to drag this effort down a few notches.

Best comedy EVER,
This review is from: Going Berserk (DVD)
I have been looking for this movie on DVD forever. It is, unfortunately that obscure and rare. It IS, however, the funniest comedy I have ever seen. Warning: It is not PG rated. DO NOT watch this with kids under 16. It is NOT classic stupid humor, although some will find it that. It is John Candy at his finest. If you are in doubt about whether to buy this movie, please, please, eliminate all doubt. Buy it today. You wont be disappointed.

THE ALL-TIME FUNNIIEST MOVIE THAT NO ONE SAW,
This review is from: Going Berserk [VHS] (VHS Tape)
All the reviews on this site are positive and spot on as they should be. However, nobody mentioned the wacky contribution of David 'BOOGA BOOGA' Steinberg, who co-wrote and directed. Stineberg had pre-SCTV relationships with most of the stars in this flick as they had recurring roles in his 70's short-lived 'THE DAVID STEINBERG SHOW' which may have been made in Canada. Also on that show was Daves good pal, Bill Seguda [you can call me johnny...]who recently made his return to TV as comatose Lewis Lewis on HBO'S 'CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM'...Eugene Levy has done it all in his 30+ yrs. in the business. His character, Salvatore DePasquali, ranks with Bobby Bitmann as his greatest ever. He oozes sleaze and his scenes filming the wedding on the church steps and then inside are just priceless.... This film is not for the meek, stick-up-their-butts, conservative types. It's raunchy and proud of it. It doesn't take the censored limitations of network tv that handcuffed SCTV and early SNL sensibilities one step further, it takes them way beyond. Also, theres a laundry list of supporting roles and/or bit parts from many future successes. Heres some examples, Richard Libertini, Alley Mills, Paul Dooley, Ernie Haudson, Dixie Carter,Tino Insana [the son of the cesspool cleaner in 'NEIGHBORS'],Murphey Dunne, Kurtwood Smith, etc....BUY,FIND,OWN,EMBRACE THIS LOVE STORY FROM THE LATE,GREAT JC & PALS
