A sensational rock performance by a superb British group, January 27, 1999
This review is from: Going to California [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This video is a must for those who enjoys TFF's stage presence. Shot before a live audience, Going to California is a performance where the spectators are awed by Orzabal and Smith's talents. The concert never lulls for a moment and the footage focuses on all the performers, which highlights each member's superb musical talents (it's refreshing to see that Orzabal and Smith aren't like some egomaniacs of rock who insist on having the whole spotlight). The viewer will certainly identify with the rocking mainstream hits, such as "Shout" and "Seeds of Love," but will be delighted to discover some soulful and snazzy B-sides, which are some of my personal faves. True Tears For Fears fans will want to add this to their collection, as it will further acquaint them with the artistic genius and creative capacity of the best group to come out of the UK. Through this concert TFF fans will also relive those days when Orzabal and Smith were together. You'll eat this live performance up!

Orzabals first "solo" project, March 27, 2003
This review is from: Going to California [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Being a TFF fan I always knew Roland Orzabal was the brains behind the group, and this proved it. When you watch this concert it becomes clear that Curt Smith was excess baggage, but then thats my opinion. First the concert begins with a short song called "women of ireland", and then opens up with Oleta Adams singing "I Believe" which can bring tears to your eyes. Next Roland and the gang come on stage and the start off with head over heels/broken. Then its curts turn to rehash change and pale shelter(time for food, and jon). Once curt is done Roland and oleta sing woman in chains which is just awesome. Next curt sings advice for the young at heart & mad world. (I would have liked hearing roland sing swords and knives, and standing on the corner of the third world instead). Okay curt is out of the picture now and its rolands/oletas show. We then hear roland sing famous last words & when the saints go marching in. Oleta then sings a great song called "I've got to sing my song" and gets a standing ovation. Next roland and oleta sing badmans song. Next comes sowing the seeds of love, all you need is love(listen for the mention of raoul and the kings of spain) & everyone wants to rule the world. Then its encore time and roland steals the show with year of the knife, and an excellent version of shout. If you would like to hear rolands solo tours they can be found on the net.

There's only one word that I can use to define this show: WORDERFUL. Buy it. It's very, very good show. The Roland's interpretation is precise and gorgeous. All the musicians are incredible. The end of the video reserve a big surprise to you... A great version of Shout. Portuguese version: Só existe uma palavra para definir este show: Maravilhoso Compre-o. É um show, muito, muito bom. A interpretação do Roland é precisa e bonita. Todos os músicos são incríveis. O fim do vídeo reserva uma grande surpresa para você. Uma versão de Shout que é demais.
