It is actually funny...,
By
This review is from: Going Greek (DVD)
This is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. It is definitely one of those movies you can watch not just once. It is basically about some college guys rushing a fraternity and all of the events that happen while doing so. The main character's cousin really wants to get accepted into the fraternity and so the cousin ends up rushing with him. If you can appreciate movies like American Pie, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and things of that category, you should see this movie. I wouldn't recommend if you don't like movies of the sort...it would be a waste of time for you. Yeah there are no high profile actors...except maybe Simon Rex but that shouldn't matter. All of the characters had a lot to offer and they all made the film as hilarious as this one. I would imagine this film would be a good choice of viewing for college students. I got it new for six dollars after watching it two times (first time coincidentally in a frat house).

Funniest elevator scene ever!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Going Greek (DVD)
This frat comedy surprisingly has a lot of heart going for it, but besides that it's pretty damn funny. A really appealing cast completely engages the audience and much of the script and direction, oddly enough, has the ring of personal experience to it. And for outrageous laughs, the elevator scene alone is worth it: once seen, it can never be forgotten. But the real trick here is characters you actually care about--without that, the laughs would be empty.

Extremely Funny,
By A Customer

Going Greek had no right to be this good...but it was hysterical. Outside of Susan Ward & Sherman from American Pie, the next biggest actor in this movie was Simon Rex...which shows you it was a low budget movie. But never did you feel like you were watching anything low budget. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that this movie was only a notch lower than Old School or the American Pie movies. Top notch gross out humor.

My favorite Actors,
By Noorzareh (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Going Greek (DVD)
My favorite actors in the movie were Harvey Silver & Simon Rex.They should have more Brotha's in such movies. Harvey Silver who played T.J. reminded me of a Will Smith. Ironically their both from Philadelphia. I used to watch Harvey (T.J.)in that sit-com called One World! GREAT ACTOR! Usually Plays likable characters! I,ve been watching Harvey Silver's career ever since the tv movie for FOX called "The Price of Love", he starred in with actor Peter Facinelli. We'll definately see more of this actor on the BIG SCREEN! Simon Rex is the most funniest actor in his time and age group. His comedic timing is funny! Usually playing the witty pretty boy type, Simon Rex is still yet to break into the dramatic side of himself. I first seen Simon Rex on MTV. I'd actually like to see Simon Rex in more shows hosting as a VJ like the stint he had on MTV!

Don't Expect Good-Looking Women,
By A Customer
This review is from: Going Greek (DVD)
It's a new school year, and that means fraternity initiations. The film is almost what you expect - not too dull, not very imaginative. However, two important caveats: almost no funny jokes - all the humor is gross-out humor; almost no female skin - in fact, most of the nudity is male, with the exception of one actress who goes briefly topless twice. Not worth the time or the cost.

When Watching Movies Becomes A True Chore,
By Numan Parada (Tujunga, California United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Going Greek (DVD)
Wow! Not since my brush with Beat Takeshi's "Hana-bi" has a film tested the limits of my patience, for this film is neither engaging nor funny. Storytelling (thinly, a college student joins a fraternity so that his cousin can join too, not knowing that he is being used to defeat a rival fraternity) and character development (just look at the "romance"), not to mention many missed opportunities at good humor, take a backseat in this 90-minute collection of what pretend to be disgusting (though well-meaning) gags. Even though some of the gags when left in isolation are quite funny, the supposed grossness of the movie quickly becomes boring since nothing apparently is at stake, so the gags exist without meaning. Surely someone with an inclination towards gross-out gags may enjoy it. Yet after repeated viewings, even he may find it frustrating to question, in ultimate futility, what is the urgency and the gravity that keeps our heroes performing these scenes.Though it's admirable that the film was shot with an extremely low budget, it's sad to see a slew of young talents with true potential bogged down in a film like this, especially the Plum One, Charlie Talbert, and his buddy, Chris Owen.

Surprisingly Funny,

I have to admit I did not have high expectations when I first saw this movie. So imagine my surprise when I found myself laughing out loud. A definite must see. You'll never look at a Little Debbie cookie the same way again.

Its alright, nothing special,

Not many "lol" moments, more like "LOI" (laughing on inside) moments. The movie has nothing to do with the title. Its a skin flick alright, but from the male side. Love Susan Ward and a few others did a great job, but the film did not meet my expectations and just wasn't as funny as some reviews made it out to be. Jake is incredibly boring in the film. Well, anyways if you re bored with nothing else to watch, this would be a great choice. It's not terrible, so i would say to give it a shot, but its not that great to put it on your list of top movies to watch.

Cookie Cutter,

This review is from: Going Greek (DVD)
I would've given it zero stars if it were possible. I felt nothing for the characters. I simply didn't care about them one way or the other. The way women were portrayed was disgusting. Every typical, cookie cutter, gag for a teen sex comedy was used, so much so that I found this movie boring. A total waste of money.

The Rightful Heir to Animal House,

Don't let the fact that Going Greek lacks a theatrical release fool you. It is awesomely funny from beginning to end, and especially great for anyone who's ever been to college. Before I continue my review however, I should note that I have a potential bias toward the film. I am in the film as a volunteer "extra" (one of the frat brothers). But I say potential bias, because I was a huge fan of the movie before most of the shooting ever took place. Before doing any work on the film, myself and a group of others were reading Going Greek and we couldn't help laughing convulsively as a huddled mass around the one script we obtained. The movie is truly hysterically funny, so I hope you understand that I write this review as a true fan of the work. Honestly, I feel that the fact it did not get wide theatrical distribution, truly bespeaks the straight forward aggressiveness of its antics and humor. It does not hold back its humor in any self-depricating attempt to "appeal" to the masses. This movie is straight up for those who have wanted a good college film with great laughs. Going Greek's first "cut" and its screenings had great responses and I know that if you ever enjoyed watching Animal House, Revenge of the Nerds, and American Pie, you will truly enjoy this film and put your copy of Going Greek right next to them on your shelf. I can't wait to get my copy and finally be able to share its genius with my friends and especially my old college buddies. Enjoy!
