Book Description

In this debut novel of his "POWER UP" series the author introduces us to his two highly trained and extremely innovative military characters from separate branches of service. The first is a Navy Chief Corpsman that has saved lives upon the battlefields around the world. The second is a War Hardened Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant, a leader of Marines. Within this opening tale he provides us with an Action Adventure story that's not only entertaining it's totally plausible and believable. Find out how alternative green energy becomes intertwined within their military mission and becomes an important part of their plans for transition from the service. These plans, they might not be able to see through following the devastating opening events that occur within the prologue.

Editorial Reviews

Review

In writing his Action Adventure Series Ralph has created believable situations. Once you finish reading his Novel he leaves the reader wondering if the events actually occurred. This all happens while his characters save the day without having the endless resources that some Novelists resort to trying to keep their series alive.

From the Author

First let me announce that the sequel to "GOING GREEN" is proceeding well and all I'll tell you right now is the action will continue for W.E. and Kemper. This second novel is going to be titled "ALTRUISTIC RUSE" and it will continue the "Power UP" Series.

Drawing inspiration from the large wind turbines farms in the vast area around Abilene Texas I combined this with what I know and current events. I'm thoroughly convinced that I have created an outstanding Action Adventure Series that doesn't resort to unbelievable science fiction in getting the mission or the story accomplished.

I thought today I would review a few books I have been working on for some time, but just could not convince myself to finish.

I got this book for free back on March 1. I have tried to read it a number of times, but I just can't get interested in it. It is a short book - 3740 locations.

I read about 8% of this one before giving up. This first part of the book is a boring description of mundane military stuff. I think the author was trying to set the stage for something by creating an aura of realism, but he just was not up to the task.

WEB Griffin knew how to write about the day to day life of military personnel and make it interesting to the reader.

The book was just full of stuff like this that is all but unreadable.

"I also want to invite everyone here over for a barbecue tomorrow. You can show up any time after 1100 and stay until we secure. Company Gunnery Sergeant Kemper and I are providing pork ribs, chicken, and barbecued brisket. Let me tell you at some point during the day the Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Base Hawaii will be stopping by and please don't let that prevent you from attending. I would strongly recommend you interact with Colonel Heathington during this get together but remember your military protocol or suffer the ramifications."

What military person would ever refer to a gunny as "Company Gunnery Sergeant" anyway? Or refer to the "Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Base Hawaii" in such a way? Or remind other military persons to act correctly around a Colonel? Just did not have that authentic feel to it.

So, because I quit on the book, it gets 1 star.

About the Author:

In this opening Novel of his POWER UP series he is writing under a pen name Ralph Ocal while drawing upon his personal experiences having Retired from U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. During his career as a Hospital Corpsman he served with both the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. A fractional list of his military awards that he received include; Navy Commendation Medal, (2) Navy Achievement Medals, and Combat Action Ribbon. In addition, he qualified for two Warfare Designators (SW/FMF); Surface Warfare Specialist, and Fleet Marine Force. His military experience began as a Platoon Corpsman and then continued expanding throughout his career and here is a partial list of his previous positions and duties; Leading Chief of Radiology, Leading Chief of Ancillary Services, Assistant Head of Staff Education and Training, Leading Petty Officer of Material Management, and as a Senior Corpsman with a Marine Corps Rifle Company. His assignment as Assistant Head of Staff Education provided him with the determination to complete a degree in Workforce Education and Development. Somehow along his way he was able to have his own business as a licensed and bonded Specialty Contractor. Additionally, Ralph had previously been a Registered Emergency Medical Technician and currently is a Radiologic Technologist and Author.
