This review is from: Going Home (Audio CD)
On this disk Georgie Fame sings wistful, hopeful ballads and mid-tempo songs that are heartfelt and sung without pretension. I think there are a lot of Americans (Georgie is better known in his native Britain, I believe) who do not know him and for whom he would undoubtedly quickly become a favorite. I think it would be fair to say that fans of singers as diverse as Van Morrison (I believe he is a long-time collaborator of Van Morrison's, actually), Elton John, and even Nick Drake (though he is more upbeat than Nick Drake, he is nearly as successful at evoking a mood and sentiment) should take a chance on Georgie, and this disk is a great place to start. These songs are more straightforwardly pop songs than the comparisons to Nick drake might imply, but they come across as just as heartfelt as Drake, in my opinion.
